Pattaya Beach Road
Pattaya Beach Road is an animated beachfront boulevard and the beating heart of Pattaya. Relax on a golden sandy beach, swim in warm turquoise water and try watersports. Browse the stores of modern shopping malls and visit a quirky entertainment center. Sample Thai street food and discover Pattaya’s nightlife. Pattaya Beach Road stretches for about 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) around Pattaya Bay.
This palm-shaded boulevard is a great place to explore on foot. The northern end is traditionally the quieter area while the southern tip is more vibrant. Find bars, restaurants, hotels and retail outlets spread along one side of the boulevard. Enjoy some retail therapy at Central Festival, a glistening multilevel mall home to over 200 shops and boutiques. More contemporary shopping is available at Royal Garden Plaza, also home to the quirky Ripley’s Believe It or Not! amusement center.
On the opposite side of the boulevard is a crescent-shaped beach, lapped at by the enticing water of the Bay of Bangkok. This narrow strip of beach is popular with locals and tourist alike. Rent sun loungers and umbrellas for comfort and shade from the sun. Try your hand at Jet Skiing and parasailing or join a boat trip around the bay. Dine at a waterfront restaurant or buy traditional snacks, such as som tam (spicy papaya salad), from the many street vendors.
A good time to come is early in the evening, when you can watch impressive sunsets over the Bay of Bangkok. Afterwards, go to Walking Street, at the boulevard’s southernmost point, to witness as Pattaya’s busiest nightlife district springs to life. Join the partygoers and sightseers that mingle between the innumerable cabaret bars, nightclubs, pubs and tattoo parlors.
As the focal point of Pattaya, Pattaya Beach Road is easily accessible via public transport. Buses and songthaews (shared taxis) stop at various points along the boulevard.
Pattaya Beach Road is a hive of activity throughout the day, although especially busy at night. Pickpockets are known to operate in the area so be careful with your personal items.
