La Rioja may be Spain's most famous wine-producing region, but the Penedès area near Barcelona is also home to some excellent wine.

The Jean Leon Wineries are small but have beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The wines are also delicious! My personal favorite was the Vinya Gigi Chardonnay (named after Jean Leon's daughter), even though I don't typically like white wines very much.

If you're staying in Barcelona, you can be happily wine tasting in the Penedès region in under an hour's drive.

“I had reservations booking a hostal as I’ve never really slept in one before. This was in a great location, the communication was very good even when I struggled with the touch screen self service key card. I had help straight away. The room was super basic but the bed was clean and comfortable, the towels were fresh and the shower hot. No frills but all I did was sleep and I slept very well ”

“Milhton Hotel its very cute. Charming, with high ceilings, and has all the basics of a room. The breakfast was great as well. Location. That’s the key here. Diagonal Station is a few steps from the hotel. Paseo de Gracia is 2 blocks away, and from there, casa Batlló and La Pedrera, are a few blocks apart. Safe area. Great restaurants all around. “The breakfast is essential but great. Staff is the jewel and they have been trying their best help make my Barcelona stay a good one. Room looks basic but it’s clean and i don’t even expect there would be a safe! Separate bathroom but the water boiler is much better than those in five star hotel (you get consistent hot water and stable temperature).And guess what, house keeping everyday! It’s such a bargain.”
