We arrived at a time when the Mauritius school holidays were on. All the rooms were occupied so we had many Mauritian neighbors to speak with. The wife and I are retired and both pensioners. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the accommodation and surrounds. I was pleased with the large shallow water lagoons , perfect for snorkeling and just swimming. We had bed and breakfast and supper by special request. The breakfast was mostly continental with enough variety to please the palate but not spoil with extravagance. Supper were varied and traditional meals. Fish, chicken, vegetarian all accompanied with rice and vegetables Well presented and pleasing both to the eye and palate. Basic facilities, allows one to stay in touch with the sincere island hospitality without pretentiousness. the management are most helpful and very good company. organised a hire vehicle, taxi to the airport. were waiting for us and expecting us. we felt most at home for the 8 days of our stay.
Pool is a good size but it has THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE HARD RIGID WHITE PLASTIC SEATS - & ONE (*yes one only*) adjustable padded sunbed. So as a couple we could not sit out & relax by the pool. Absolutely crazy - do not understand why the hotel would have a great clean pool but *the* most uncomfortable sunbeds ever!! There is a pretty little beach nearby - but we don't like sitting on the sand - part of our holiday would have been chilling by the pool, reading & chatting.
Some of the food was great - see below - if they could improve the breakfasts & produce consistently good food EVERY evening rather than just one occasional nights they would be a four/ five star rating!. As on the good nights the superb grilled fish & another night pork curry were to die for! I think more people would stay there & more would go & eat there in the evening.
We (a couple) were put in a room that had an adjoining door (locked obviously as were were a two). BUT the hotel then put a large noisy & inconsiderate family with small children in that room next to us. The hotel was not full - so they could have put them somewhere else away from us. There was only a door seperating us - so we could hear all the screaming & shouting early in the morning & later in the afternoon.
We did not get why they would do that - as we had said to them when we arrived we were sooo looking forward to some relaxing time.
Would deffo go to Rodrigues again! Unspoiled, beautiful place and people - amazing experience
