    Mauritius Hotel Travel Guide

The Portuguese first stepped foot on Mauritius in the first decade of the 16th century, and intrepid Dutch, French, and English explorers did likewise for a little more than 200 years before the English took sole possession of it in 1810. Each person will find something for him or herself on this gorgeous island that has been named "World's Leading Island Destination" by the World Travel Awards. Anglers can follow in the footsteps of Roger Murgatroyd from Fredrick Forsyth's riveting short story "The Emperor," and chase the king of all game fish: the marlin. Beach-goers can enjoy sandy expanses of paradise that have collected the title of "World's Best Beach." Amateur and professional historians alike can comb through various ruins that were last used when flightless dodo birds covered the island.

A wonderful week spent at this glorious hotel made memorable by their professional staff. The food was amazing, service was excellent and the rooms were large and comfortable. All staff, especially Vic always treated us like royalty - cocktails and canapes specially put on for our large family to enjoy the occasion. We will always remember this holiday and cannot recommend the hotel more highly.

"A great hotel for the money but...."
Pool is a good size but it has THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE HARD RIGID WHITE PLASTIC SEATS - & ONE (*yes one only*) adjustable padded sunbed. So as a couple we could not sit out & relax by the pool. Absolutely crazy - do not understand why the hotel would have a great clean pool but *the* most uncomfortable sunbeds ever!! There is a pretty little beach nearby - but we don't like sitting on the sand - part of our holiday would have been chilling by the pool, reading & chatting. Some of the food was great - see below - if they could improve the breakfasts & produce consistently good food EVERY evening rather than just one occasional nights they would be a four/ five star rating!. As on the good nights the superb grilled fish & another night pork curry were to die for! I think more people would stay there & more would go & eat there in the evening. We (a couple) were put in a room that had an adjoining door (locked obviously as were were a two). BUT the hotel then put a large noisy & inconsiderate family with small children in that room next to us. The hotel was not full - so they could have put them somewhere else away from us. There was only a door seperating us - so we could hear all the screaming & shouting early in the morning & later in the afternoon. We did not get why they would do that - as we had said to them when we arrived we were sooo looking forward to some relaxing time. Would deffo go to Rodrigues again! Unspoiled, beautiful place and people - amazing experience
