Mauritius Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

The Portuguese first stepped foot on Mauritius in the first decade of the 16th century, and intrepid Dutch, French, and English explorers did likewise for a little more than 200 years before the English took sole possession of it in 1810. Each person will find something for him or herself on this gorgeous island that has been named "World's Leading Island Destination" by the World Travel Awards. Anglers can follow in the footsteps of Roger Murgatroyd from Fredrick Forsyth's riveting short story "The Emperor," and chase the king of all game fish: the marlin. Beach-goers can enjoy sandy expanses of paradise that have collected the title of "World's Best Beach." Amateur and professional historians alike can comb through various ruins that were last used when flightless dodo birds covered the island.

    "Affordable hotel close to airport"
Close to airport and good choice for 1 night (waiting for flight). Not to stay for holiday of 5 nights or more. Nice pool area but not nice beach for swimming (rocks). Dinner okay with only 2 choices in meat - fish or lamb.

"Nice secluded grounds, good range of facilities"
My wife and I spent a week at the Ravenala on a half-board package - which proved ample for us, given the generous quantities of food available for breakfast and dinner. We had a standard room with balcony, which was lovely and spacious with a large comfortable double bed; although it could have done with a bit more, and more practical other furniture (eg inside chairs to sit and watch TV from). The grounds of the hotel are a strong point: spacious, secluded and generally well kept, with large swimming pools and ample sunning areas close to them as well as on beside the nearby private beach. The beach itself is nice, if a little small (including a rather small enclosed swimming area). There is a good range of games, sports and water sports activities and equipment available, most free of charge. The hotel has a total of ten different eating venues/styles (!), of which seven are included in the half-board and all-inclusive packages. The main buffet restaurant offered some excellent dishes and choices, as did one or two of the other restaurants. We were however disappointed by the quality of some of the other smaller restaurants. Service was generally good, and in some individual cases excellent. But there were also irritations that let things down: for example, the repeated shortage of standard English tea sachets for breakfast, and the lateness in cleaning our room most days - perhaps because it was quite far away from the main area, another area of disappointment.

"Very Nice stay, an Excellent Beach. "
We enjoyed our stay almost to the max. after visiting high rated beaches out of the hotel we were sure we had the best beach in our own hotel and we enjoyed every day on this beach. It is very near to the shopping, Proenade and lots of Cafes and Restaurants. All in all it was Excellent . We are hopefull of being able to visit again and we would stay at the same Hotel, may be it is not the most Luxouries but for a Vacation on an Island it is just what we need.
