![We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours. In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct. Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail. Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area. In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so. To begin with, we were welcomed by the famous Alpacas! The receptionist was really friendly. Room was clean and well equipped, the view from room was extravagant. Our friends, the Roos, the horses, the alpacas and some bunny paid visit in the backyard which we greatly enjoyed. Hot tub is a great size. Bed was comfy. Nice room, gas fire place was awsome to have in room keep us warm, great shower as it has a rain shower head on it. Awsome view from room and plenty of space. It was fun meeting the Alpacas and feeding them. It was good also to meet the horses . Staff was great to talk too very friendly and very committed to you having a great stay. Place was so quiet and relaxing as no kids being noisy as it is a adults only place. Tennis court, games room, pool table. Food was nice what we had. It was a surprise for my husband for our 1 year anniversary. Did not matter what the weather was like. Stayed 3 nights in a Lake View Spa Suite. Views from the rooms are amazing. Suites are a great size , comfy bed, great spa bath. Staff are very welcoming. The room itself was lacking . Cob webs , dirty windows , the cabin had an odd smell to it and I felt a bid deceived because it was way smaller than the advertised pics led to believe. Another concern I had was it worries me that I read in the room that you’d appreciate us to wash the dishes for the next guest . I put my trust in the establishment to clean up and make sure it’s done properly not the last guests before us . I made sure to re clean everything before use as reading that sign concerned me . Eagle view installs a natural sense of peace. The views from our bath were directly over the lake, and we could observe the wildlife. So relaxing. Room had Nespresso pod and T2 tea.
