We recently stayed at the Rubenstein Hotel on Canal Street, and overall had a good experience with a few quirks. The location is excellent if your main goal is exploring the French Quarter. It’s easy to walk to Bourbon Street, the French Market, and plenty of restaurants, while still being right on Canal. The hotel was genuinely very clean, and because it’s relatively new, the rooms and mattresses felt fresher than what you’ll find at many hotels in this price range around the French Quarter. That said, there were a few design choices that seemed like they weren’t fully thought through. The shower has attractive tile work, but there’s nowhere to put your soap or shampoo, and the partial glass door doesn’t keep the water contained, so the bathroom floor gets wet after every shower. The biggest downside for us was the noise. The room doors close with a loud slam that echoes through the hallway, and on a busy Friday night it made it difficult to get to sleep before 2:00 a.m. If you’re planning to enjoy the nightlife, that may not bother you. But if you’re an early-to-bed traveler, it’s something to keep in mind. Overall, we’d stay again for the cleanliness, comfortable bed, and unbeatable location, but we’d hope the hotel eventually addresses some of the noise issues and a few of the practical details in the room design.

Beautiful historic building, loved the pool/courtyard area. The restaurant was very good and staff were very attentive.

Small, quaint hotel not too far from all the sights. The night crowd can be loud when trying to sleep, but not a big deal at all.
