8.8/10 Excellent! (1,000 reviews)
Starting with some positives the grounds are splendid and the entrance to the hotel very impressive. After having had breakfast we were dubious about having dinner at the hotel but our fears proved unfounded and both the choice and quality of food was very good. Most staff were friendly and as helpful as possible whilst seeming under pressure of work.
The negatives I’m afraid far outweighed the positives; the afore mentioned breakfast is a very sad affair badly cooked with only fried eggs and mostly tinned fruit. Staffing seems to be a problem as each morning items were in short supply or missing, requiring guests to request (in my case) bowls, water to be replenished and eggs. The most disappointing aspect of the stay was the housekeeping which can only be described as dire. Generally the fabric of the building, carpets, decor etc. is very
tired to the point that the carpets in the orridors look dirty, in the bedroom they were very dirty.
During the stay whilst housekeeping had been in the room ( bed badly made) I was forced to go to reception for toilet paper as it had not been replenished. Having used the two cups in the room for tea on the first night these were never replaced or cleaned during our stay. Body wash doubled at hand soap!!! Plenty of towels provided. Not at all like any other four star hotel we have ever stayed in and judging by the number of complaints we witnessed from other guests it is unlikely to retain this stat
