I have seen many ghost cities in China - in fact, I am living in one now. However, I have also seen these ghost cities being populated in a very short time. This practice of building ghost towns has allowed China to export this concept of building cities (Look at the link below regarding Egypt's new capital city) to other countries. This not only helps growth in China, but it also helps China create international political guanxi. Other great civilizations have used military might in order to expand their empire. China's massive population has created a diaspora unlike any other in history. This, and the fact that China literally builds bridges in other countries, is allowing China to quickly gain influence in the developing world. I have a great many concerns with Chinese culture, in particular the education system, and its slight disregard for environmental degradation. However, I also have a great respect for what they have done in the past and what they are trying to do now. If humanity can find a way out of its current mess, it needs to embrace Western creativity and Eastern thought.
