Find hotels in Sonche from $17

The best area to stay in Sonche is near the Gocta Waterfall, specifically in the villages of Cocachimba or San Pablo.

Cocachimba is the primary village for accessing the Gocta Waterfall, offering direct trails to its base. It's a small, quiet community with accommodations that often feature views of the waterfall. This village provides a relaxed environment, superb for travelers seeking a direct connection to nature and a focus on hiking.

For those who prefer a slightly different approach to the waterfall or a more local experience, San Pablo is another excellent option. It offers an alternative trail to the waterfall and is known for its community-based tourism initiatives.

The best time to go to Sonche is during the dry season, which typically runs from May to October.

During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunny days, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region. The trails leading to the Sonche Canyon and other viewpoints are generally drier and more accessible, providing a more pleasant hiking experience. This period is also excellent for outdoor activities like birdwatching and enjoying the panoramic views without the hindrance of heavy rain.

While the dry season offers optimal weather, it is also the peak tourist season. If you prefer fewer crowds and don't mind occasional showers, the shoulder months of April and November can also be a good option.
