St. Lucia

In the eastern Caribbean Sea, St. Lucia is a prime example of an island country that has it all. From lush rainforests to pristine beaches to towering volcanos, St. Lucia encompasses a variety of landscapes. Go whale watching off the coast, hike along scenic nature trails and enjoy parties at lively bars and nightclubs across the island.

While the official language of St. Lucia is English, the vast majority of the population also speak a French-based Creole dialect. St. Lucia’s colonial history means that it has a rich blend of culture and traditions.

One of the most beautiful sights in St. Lucia is that of the Piton Mountains, two green volcanic cones that thrust out from the sea in the southwest. These UNESCO-listed geographic landmarks are a popular backdrop for wedding ceremonies. Enjoy the view of the mountains from afar or venture up the Gros Piton trail, which leads to the top of the larger peak. For sandy beaches and rows of palm trees, spend the day relaxing or enjoying a picnic in Pigeon Island National Park.

St. Lucia and the surrounding waters are a breeding ground for local wildlife, including whales and dolphins. Take a whale-watching tour to spot bottleneck dolphins as well as humpback and pilot whales playing in the sparkling blue seas. On land, camp overnight on Grand Anse beach between March and August to watch turtles lay their eggs. Go horseback riding along the shore past banana plantations and hidden beaches.

Head to the northwest of the island to discover Rodney Bay Village, a hotspot for shopping, eating and socializing. Wander through Bay Walk Mall and browse the international designer stores, or find a restaurant that serves authentic Caribbean food with an Indian influence.

St. Lucia is easy to get to by air or by sea. International flights land at Hewanorra International Airport in the south of the island. Cruise ships dock at the port in Castries, where you can pick up inter-island ferries to other destinations.

Come to St. Lucia to explore an enchanting Caribbean destination filled with fascinating wildlife and breathtaking views.
