Staatz is situated approximately 35 miles (56 kilometers) north of Vienna, the country's capital, and approximately 120 miles (193 kilometers) northeast of Graz.
Try not to limit yourself to Staatz; this region has numerous cultural and scenic attractions which await the savvy traveler. If you've enough time, head 14 miles (23 kilometers) to get to Mailberg. Here you can spend an hour or two visiting the Weingut Milanovich-Hormann and Weingut Karl Brunthaler.
About 35 miles (56 kilometers) to the south of Staatz is Vienna, an important regional city home to Gasometer, International Atomic Energy Agency and Stift Klosterneuburg. If you have enough time, be sure to visit St. Ruprecht's Church, Holocaust Memorial and Messe Wien Exhibition and Congress Center before returning to Staatz.
This area is popular for its range of old towns; these are often evocative testaments to the area's rich history. If you ask a local their favorite places to see, more often than not they'll point to the region's fabulous gardens and open-air museums.
Rug up and enjoy snowboarding or cross-country skiing. These winter sports are popular with locals and visitors. A great way to experience the wild landscapes in Lower Austria is to join for a ice skating or tobogganing tour.
When it is time to leave Staatz, pack up your camera and mementos, spend your last of your euros on last-minute souvenirs, and bid Tschüss (farewell) to this unique destination.
