The best area to stay in Steinplatte for convenient ski access and beautiful mountain views is Waidring, a village located at the base of the Steinplatte ski resort.

Waidring serves as the primary gateway to the Steinplatte ski area. It's a compact village with a main road, Bundesstraße 175, running through it, lined with hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants. The valley station for the Steinplatte gondola is situated just outside the village center, making for easy access to the slopes. This location is ideal for families, as many accommodations offer direct shuttle services or are a short walk or drive from the gondola.

For couples seeking a more secluded and picturesque experience, staying higher up on the mountain itself, near the ski lifts, can be a wonderful option. This allows for direct ski-in/ski-out access and breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Tyrolian Alps. While fewer dining options are available directly on the mountain, the tranquility and immediate access to winter sports make it a compelling choice.

The best time to visit Steinplatte is during the winter for prime skiing conditions, typically from December to March, or during the summer months, from June to September, for hiking and outdoor activities.

For avid skiers and snowboarders, the winter season offers reliable snow cover and access to the Steinplatte ski resort's 42 kilometers of slopes. December brings festive holiday cheer, while January and February often have the best powder. March provides longer daylight hours and often pleasant spring skiing conditions.

Summer in Steinplatte, from June to September, is ideal for those who enjoy mountain hiking, climbing, and exploring the natural landscape. The warmer weather opens up numerous trails, including the popular Triassic Park, which features a viewing platform and educational exhibits about prehistoric times.
