Visit the North District, a leafy sector of Tainan that is filled with schools, parks and museums. You’ll also find temples and night markets, allowing you to experience local traditions. Try the local dishes and snacks from the many stalls and restaurants spread across the district.

Bring your family to large Tainan Park, where all types of activities take place, from badminton games to dance classes. Marvel at the traditional architecture and rent a paddleboat to take out on the lake.

At the southern end of the park are several spiritual hubs. Stroll around the grounds of the Tainan Xihua Temple and appreciate its serenity and grace. Gaze up at the enormous clay statue of the Guanyin bodhisattva in the historic wooden structure of the Temple of Avalokitesvara. The Kaiji Tianhou Temple has wonderful baroque décor.

A little east of the temples is the Tainan Cultural and Creative Park, a majestic redbrick building used for gatherings and conferences. Enter the historic site, which was formerly a government office, to see its array of art and industry exhibitions.

Visit the colonial buildings of the 321 Art Alley Settlement to view innovative artistic displays. Head to the district’s eastern end to inspect the native seeds and plants of the Qianqi Seed Museum.

As dusk falls, try the Taiwanese traditional snacks and light meals at the Xiaobei Chenggong Night Market or the Garden Night Market, where you can play pinball, darts and other games with your little ones.

The North District borders the northern end of the West Central District of Tainan City. It is near the coast in the southwestern corner of Taiwan. Arrive at Tainan Airport and drive north for 5 miles (8 kilometers) to reach the center of this zone. While in this part of the country, make sure to visit nearby destinations such as Kaohsiung City, Chiayi City and Taijiang National Park.
