Tainan City Centre is an imperial capital, its array of museums and temples providing insights into one of the oldest hubs in Taiwan. Its markets are filled with Taiwanese traditional dishes and snacks. Get a sense of the local culture by visiting the stalls of the Dadong Night Market.

Another highlight of the zone is the large Tainan Flower Night Market, which has more than 400 stalls showcasing a range of fashion and snacks, including eel noodles, scallion pancakes and bubble milk tea. Let your kids play on the arcade machines and fairground games.

Rent scooters to get around the lively streets of the city center and reach iconic Fort Provintia. Dating back to the 17th century, this Dutch outpost has pleasant gardens and opulent décor. Visit the adjacent Grand Matsu Temple and stroll through its baroque rooms. Make sure to also see the modest Jinhua Temple, the historic Koxinga Temple and the remarkable Official God of War Temple.

For shopping, Tainan City Centre has much to offer. Browse the stores of the T.S. Dream Mall, which is spread across several floors. Choose from the upscale brands at the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tainan Ximen Store.

A little west, wander down the Anping Old Streets and admire the historic buildings. At the western end of the quaint Anping District, you’ll find the Former Tait & Co Merchant House and Anping Tree House, a one-time warehouse that has been consumed by the roots and branches of an enormous banyan tree.

Tainan City Centre lies at the southern end of the special municipality of Tainan, close to the border with Kaohsiung City in southwestern Taiwan. Arrive at Tainan Airport and take a shuttle bus to the city center to get here in about 20 minutes. Explore the area for other nearby attractions, such as Taijiang National Park, the Sicao Green Tunnel and the Gold Coast.
