Taoyuan City Centre is a lively zone lined with modern shopping malls, cafés and restaurants serving delicious local dishes. It is relatively small and walkable, while its architecture serves as a reminder of its proud industrial heritage.

Be immersed in the local culture as you browse the stalls of the Taoyuan Night Market. Witness another side of local culture during a soccer game at Taoyuan City Stadium, which seats 30,000 spectators. Dating back to 1993, the site also has an athletics track and hosts other sports events. See a baseball game at the nearby Taoyuan International Baseball Stadium.

Understand local tastes and styles at the Taoyuan Chinese Furniture Museum. Its exhibition rooms show how furniture and décor have developed over the centuries in the region.

Learn about spirituality at the Taoyuan Shrine, which mixes Japanese, Taiwanese and Tang dynasty architectural styles. It was constructed in 1938 and later dedicated to the fallen heroes of the Republic of China.

For something a little different, head south to the Kimlan Foods Museum. Purchase soy sauce and scented soaps after your guided tour of this museum. Nearby is Jiangs Cultural Park, which is dedicated to a father and son said to have helped create modern Taiwan. Browse the exhibits in the museum and study the sculptures.

Note that much of the city’s infrastructure has grown around its industrial heritage. Commuters and foreigners have long visited the city center for work.

Taoyuan City Centre is in the southeastern corner of the Taoyuan special municipality in northern Taiwan. Fly to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and drive south for about 10 miles (16 kilometers) to reach this central district. You can also travel by shuttle bus from the airport to the Tao-Yuan HSR Station. While you’re here, consider exploring the surrounding areas of the Bade District, the Daxi Old Street and the Guishan District.
