Hill 60 is a World War I battlefield memorial site located almost 5 km south of Ypres. Prior to World War I, the hill was known as Côte des Amants.

The area is covered in pock marks from the mine detonations and underground warfare that became prevalent in WWI. Pictured here is the Caterpillar Crater, where two tunnels were detonated to cause this hole in the landscape. Many soldiers and miners died in the tunnels making Hill 60 a graveyard.

Now tranquil, the scars on the hills are a reminder of the horrors of war from over 100 years ago.

German bunkers are also buried in the hills and peek out from under grass that has started to overgrow the remnants of war.
This is the central point of the Coming World Remember Me land art exhibit commemorating the 600000 killed on Ypres Salient between 1914 and 1918.
