This cozy apartment has one bedroom with a queen sized bed, which is located between the kitchen and living room. It is an open concept apartment without doors other than the bathroom. There is a privacy curtain for the bedroom. There is also a queen sized Stearns & Foster sofa bed in the living room with a thick, comfortable mattress.
The apartment is on the 2nd floor, has a large covered deck and direct access to the back yard.
High ceilings, large windows, comfortable furniture/linens and a multitude of amenities assure your stay is most enjoyable!
I try to plan for about anything a guest might need - here are just a few of the things I have available to guests:
50" Smart TV in the living room, WiFi, board games, playing cards, basic desk supplies, vacuum, umbrella, fan, white noise machine, 40" Smart TV in the bedroom, reading lamp, luggage stand, iron and ironing board, extra bedding, room darkening curtains, disposable earplugs.
The bathroom features thick, fluffy towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, Q tips, lavender bath salt, hair dryer, and a variety of frequently forgotten items including toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, women's hygiene, makeup remover wipes, glasses cleaning wipes, and nail files. Basic first aid supplies include Acetaminophen, bandaids, and triple antibiotic.
In the kitchen you will find a full sized range, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, Keurig, tea kettle, pots and pans, dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils and glassware. There is also a selection of K-pods, tea bags, snacks, condiments, flour, sugar, and spices.
Outside the back door is a large deck, which is shared with the other short term rental unit across the hall (each apartment has a separate seating area). The deck has direct access to the fenced back yard, which is available to all guests and building tenants. The back yard features a large reclaimed brick paver patio, firepit (firewood provided!), grill, seating areas, dining table, swings, and a variety of outdoor games and toys. Accessible from the back yard is the building's laundry room, which requires either quarters or prepay on the PayRange app.
The front of the building features a large porch that spans the entire building. There is a nice seating area as well as a porch swing. If you have any packages deliveries during your stay, there is a secure package box on the porch.
Ad Astra Place is just 2 blocks from the Kansas state capitol building and 4 blocks from Kansas Ave, the heart of the downtown area with shopping and dining. Convenient for travelers, I-70 access is just 6 blocks East. The 2 hospitals in Topeka as well as Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital are just 8 blocks West.
The building was built in 1904, this grand building was originally 8 flats. It was reconfigured in the 50's and 60's and is now 18 apartments. I purchased the building in 2018 and began renovation of the fully outdated and poorly maintained building, which I renamed "Ad Astra Place Apartments" after the Kansas state motto, "Ad Astra, Per Aspera", or "To the Stars Through Difficulty."
I have 4 short term rental units, all of which are on the 2nd floor of the North hallway (the building has both a North and South hallway.)
As a dog lover and rescuer, I made my building dog friendly and fenced in the back yard to provide a place for our furry friends to stretch their legs leash free.
