The owners were very friendly and the property was well maintained. We couldn't fault the food that was served for our breakfast which had all been sourced locally. The hotel is in a quiet location, just a five minute walk from the seafront and a gentle stroll down into Torquay. Would certainly recommend The Charterhouse.

Brilliant Hotel
What can i say. Lisa & Christoff were absolutely brilliant , they done absolutely everything to make our stay a fantastic experience from day 1 to day 5. The hotel is a very large house in a lovely part of Torquay, very private and peaceful. You placed your order for breakfast the previous day, very comprehensive menu. It is just a short walk from the seafront and the bus stops which is a great aid if you have problems walking. We can understand why some of the guests we met there, return year after year, you are made so welcome. 1St Class.

Our short break in Torquay.
Lovely welcome and comfortable, spotless room. Small fridge in room with fresh milk for teas and coffees. Great shower (en suite) and clean and tidy toilet/sink (separate room). Would have liked a bit more wardrobe space. Tranquil location. Breakfast was excellent and very much personalised. Would definitely recommend.

Great value lovely house
A lovely house, clean and comfortable. Friendly owners who cooked a lovely fresh breakfast. Parking included. 15 min walk to the town. Couldn’t fault it.

Great stay, beautiful peaceful location
Lovely couple of nights here in one of the rooms with its own door directly to the garden, ideal for bringing my dog. Welcoming thoughtful hosts and really well cooked delicious breakfasts. Very clean & comfy throughout, would love to return. Ideal for walking up the road to Cockington water meadows and woods.

Large Garden room
Our large garden room was spotless. Lisa was amazing and very attentive. Our little jack Russell loved the Sandy beach and playing with the other dogs on the beach. My husband has Parkinson’s and used a walking frame. He struggled with the hilly area and I suggest people hire a mobility scooter to support their additional needs. I would definitely recommend The Charterhouse,

Perfect service, great location, huge breakfast
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful 4-night stay at the Charterhouse in July 2021. Lisa was a perfect host and made sure we were comfortable at every opportunity. Christophe's breakfasts were delicious and filling and made sure we stayed full for most of the day. The Charterhouse is a 15-minute walk to the marina, a 30-minute walk to the centre of Torquay and a 15-minute walk up to the beautiful village of Cockington. They also offer free parking. I'd highly recommend staying here.

On arrival we were welcomed by lisa who was most helpful nothing was too much trouble for her. The room was very clean, the food was amazing and they were on hand to assist with anything we needed. During out stay we noticed extra measures in place to help stop the spread of covid. Things like flannels that had been soaked in disinfectant for use at the breakfast table. Handles etc being constantly wiped down. We will definitely be going bk nxt year and would highly recommend to anyone.

great stay
A really nice stay for three nights. The best English cooked breakfast I have ever had. It was not just cooked well but had the best ingredients. The room was ideal as it was a garden room and on one day we even had breakfast on the terrace. This was ideal for our dog. Lisa and Christoph Mahendra great hosts. It was also close to a beach which was great to swim and you could surf on a windy day.

Fabulous hotel
The Charterhouse is a lovely hotel in a great location. Lisa is very welcoming and we felt at home straight away. COVID measures were fully in place and explained clearly which put us at ease. Great to have a guest lounge, terrace and garden areas available to sit in and relax. Nice breakfast too!

Perfect stay in Torquay
Great accomodation in a great location. Accessing the ground floor room via the outside door made it very simple and effective for social distancing. The room was comfortable and quiet. The service was great, nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend.

Lovely Break
We really enjoyed our stay at The Charterhouse, Lisa and Christophe are lovely hosts, Lisa really helpful with local info and Christophe,s fantastic breakfast. The hotel is really very nicely decorated, the room we had was large, the bed so comfortable, the bathroom had a bath as well as a seperate shower and really tastefully done out. Torquay is around a mile walk along the sea front, buses are every few minutes from the bottom of the lane to Torquay or Paignton, and on to Brixham. If you want to walk up to Cockington village and park, that is a very pleasant stroll alongside a stream, a very pleasant way to spend a few hours in peace and quiet. I really would recommend The Charterhouse for a stay, nice quiet location and free parking, plus a lovely house and hosts.

Very pleasant and comfortable stay. Marion and Les are the most pleasant and helpful hosts who go out of their way to make sure you have a memorable stay. Breakfasts were generous and delicious the highlights being the home made bread and jams. Highly recommended.

Both myself and my gorgeous partner Gül had a fantastic stay at The Charterhouse. Marion and Les really looked after us with a warm and friendly welcome they gave us advice on the best places to visit and eat in Torquay and treated us to a lovely home-made breakfast every morning. For a lovely welcome, food and hospitality you are home from home at The Charterhouse.

Lovely, close to the beach and town.
Really enjoyed our weekend away. The Charterhouse is within walking distance of the beach and the town. Perfect on a sunny day! Beautiful, well looked after grounds with outdoor seating and a swimming pool. Marion and Les are lovely and very helpful, they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. They have a vast knowledge of the area and lots of ideas for days out. Breakfast is great and so much choice, definitely sets you up for a busy day of sightseeing! Their homemade bread, jams and marmalades are yummy!

Perfect B&B in a lovely part of the world. The hosts are wonderful and the breakfast is amazing! Visitors should take a walk along the water meadow, past the lakes to the church, craft village and Manor House - absolutely magic!

We had an amazing stay for our honeymoon at The Charterhouse, the hosts were so friendly and helpful and even put a bottle of champagne in our room. The breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of choice. just a great stay and would love to stay again

Wonderful experience in this old villa!
The hotel is in a very nice old and big English villa. Marion, the host is just great, friendly, and helpful. Rooms are nice and comfortable. Homemade breakfast is a dream! Freshly baked bread and homemade jam. Wonderful experience!
