The house itself was beautiful - exposed wood, huge windows, and every amenity you could ask for. But best of all were the surroundings you could see from those windows: the ocean was right outside, as were the woods and walking trails. The view from the house was spectacular, and at night we all gazed for hours at the moonlight sparkling on the ocean.

Charming Community with Incredible Ocean Views
Tors Cove is a charming and quiet little community with incredible ocean views. We feel extremely fortunate to have stayed at this property for our week vacation this past summer. The cottage was spacious, uncluttered and well maintained. We loved the open concept living space with all of the natural light streaming through the A-frame windows. Bedrooms were very comfortable and bright and the bathroom spacious with a washer/dryer combo that was incredibly helpful. The view of the ocean from the cottage was absolutely stunning and perfect for whale and boat watching right from the deck. We spent time walking the trails within the community down to the rocky beach where we skipped rocks, collected various sea treasures and watched an incredible show of a group of Northern Gannets "torpedo diving" for their dinner! We hoped to take more advantage of the East Coast Trail, which is right off the property entrance gate, but unfortunately one of our daughters had sprained her ankle the week we left for our vacation. We quickly pivoted our plans and took advantage of other nearby adventures including Sea Kayaking in Cape Broyle and a Zodiac Tour operating out of Petty Harbour. So many whales, seabirds and cave exploring. We also enjoyed a few days in and around St. John's, which was only a quick 30 minute drive from Tors Cove. Thank you Frank & Sandra for sharing your North Atlantic Oasis ... we hope to get back again for more memorable adventures!

Beautiful location right on the Atlantic Ocean and offers expansive views. Great hikes start at the end of the driveway. Convenient to other scenic locations in Avalon. Generally, the House was beautiful and had everything we needed but could use a little TLC.

Beautiful Property, but Inaccurate Pictures of Interior
We enjoyed our stay at this home. We saw lots of wild life and whales, which was very exciting! Easy access to the trails and beach. The large windows gave a glorious view of the ocean. The open design of the kitchen and living room was also nice. The beds were comfy, giving us all a great night’s rest. The pictures in the listing do not match the actual interior of the house. The furniture in the living room has been changed to a dark gray, three section IKEA like sofa and ottoman, with two swivel chairs, one blue and one striped. There is a pine coffee table and end table. The rug is also different and needs a pad underneath to keep it from moving. The bedrooms are sparse in decor (nothing on the walls, no curtains), and necessities, like side table lamps, (which we were told had been ordered, but not delivered). The blinds in the smaller bedroom were broken, and there were no curtains. We addressed this with the owners and we’re told it would be fixed in the next day or so. It wasn’t repaired while we were there and there was no further communication from the owners. We rigged up a blanket and towels to cover the window for privacy and to keep out the morning sun. The floor was dusty. The larger bedroom was the same, nothing on the walls, incomplete trim around the attic access area, and the arrangement of the furniture was awkward due to a large built-in shelf, probably for a TV. The furniture itself was nice and the beds were very comfortable.

On the path to Perfect
This property itself is wonderful: spacious, great view, amazing grounds, beautiful interior, extremely helpful host and good location. However, we also have a few suggestions that address fixable (vs fundamental) problems. We felt the housekeeping needs an upgrade, from cobwebs in corners to floor sweeping to personal items left in the bathroom. We also wished the bedrooms would have reading lights by the beds and nightlights for navigation. Nevertheless, we would definitely return to this property and would recommend it to others.

Hiking trip along the East Coast Trail
We found the property location in Tors Cove ideal for our hiking trip. It has an outstanding view of the nearby coastline and is actually located on the East Coast Trail. The house is modern, comfortable an roomy. We especially enjoyed the great room facing the ocean and used the fire place to warm up after a long day on the Trail. The property manager, Gerald, was very helpful in steering us in the right direction and to answer any questions we had about the area. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing place by the sea this property is an ideal choice.

Super Venue
The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well appointed. The view from the cottage was grand and the surrounding grounds were well-maintained. The caretaker was exceptionally pleasant, friendly, and helpful. We needed help with learning how to use the TV and he came three times before he found us home. And he still had a smile and helped! Our only problem was locating the property in the dark. The directions depended upon seeing a green house and house colors were not evident in the dark. Our phone call to the owner went to an answering service and wasn't returned until the following morning. Fortunately, knocking on the door of someone in the neighborhood resulted in a friendly fellow who hopped in his truck and led us to the cottage.

This location was very beautiful. Wake up in the morning to a glorious view of the ocean. Amazing hiking trails right off the property. We could also see the whale spouts while we were eating our meals at the kitchen table. Close to a grocery store to stock up on what you needed for your time there. Enjoyed our stay!

One of our all-time favorites!
This place was everything and more than advertised. The location and view were stunning....from every room. Not to mention the icebergs! We arrived on May 19, 2017...stayed for 4 nites and loved every minute of it. My wife was so excited she went from room to room doing a narrative video and sending it to relatives. We have every intention of returning soon!

Special place in wonderful secret land.
When we walked in our faces cracked in half with the smiles that broke out. This house and it’s location are truly special. Quiet, clean and peaceful. The owners could not be more helpful nor more kind. It took effort every day to just get outside of the cozy home. Then we found an amazing cove of animals ( seals, sea otters, loons, bald eagles..)and access to the East Coast trail. Go round the back of the house BEFORE your last day! We wished we could have been there for at least another week. Newfoundland is a treasure. The people, the scenery, the fresh air and I could go on and on. Ten stars.

The best part of our first trip to Newfoundland was our stay in Tors Cove
Nothing short of spectacular. There was nothing we wanted that wasn’t right outside the front door. The sound of crashing waves, the ever changing ocean, the hiking trail directly behind the house, and all the amenities to make for a worry free stay. And Sandra and Frank were ready to help with anything we might need (though as it turned out, we wanted for nothing).

A real hideaway
Four of us (family) came to Newfoundland for a rock gardeners’ conferece in St. John’s, and came south to the Tors Bay house afterward. Spent a truly relaxing week in a very special place (even for Newfoundland, which has many special places). A comfortable house with the most magnificent views of the cove and its islands was the perfect base from which to explore the villages and trails south of St. John’s. The great room picture windows were perfect for watching whales, puffins, loons, and the changing sea and sky. We did a lot of short hikes and beach combing, talked to the local folks, and made friends with a dog or two. It is a true getaway—not for folks who have to be constantly connected or who need their daily Starbucks and fast food. Bring your own groceries and use the well-equipped kitchen, or try the little local restaurants and bakeries. The caretaker for the house is local and a wonderful source of information of all sorts. He secured us the most wonderful halibut steaks for our final dinner—delivered with a lively account of local history! One caution—if you are driving a rental car, an SUV or other high-clearance vehicle is recommended—the access road to the house is not a public road and is hilly and quite rough. Cannot imagine a better place for a truly relaxing vacation—would make the trip to Newfoundland again just to stay at Cribbies Cottage. Thank you, Sandra, for sharing it with us.

Beautiful views, could see whales from our window, peaceful pond, quiet and private.
This property felt exactly like a home! It had all the amenities that you could need. We needed a little help figuring out some of the things in the house and the homeowner responded within minutes! This location offers easy access to the southern shore, for day trips of hiking and boat tours, with local restaurants only 15- 20 min drive. Would absolutely go back again!!
