"This is hands down one of the prettiest and coolest properties you can stay in, in rural Portugal. The property, room and pool and service was amazing, but the town itself situated in is also just one of the coolest experiences. So many handmade items included in your stay and available to purchase. The host is amazing, super friendly and laid back. The grounds were beautiful, unique and has so much character. The lodging was well maintained and fit our needs perfectly, including an elevator to the first floor for my husband with bad knees. Staff was attentive to any requests. Rooms were spacious and equipped with all our needs. Breakfast was substantial and beautifully presented. A perfect central locations to do day trips to 4 other northern Aldeias Historicas.

We loved everything about this place. So much host and then also modern. The people are so nice and supportive. The location is great. Don’t forget to stop in the local restaurant. You will be surprised about the high end food. And the local store has lots of goodies.

The place was really quiet and the view was stunning. The breakfast was really good as well with most food being locally sourced.
The Panoramic Villa was nice, there was a bit of a misunderstanding at first when the host showed us the Villa but was resolved afterwards. Also the shower seemed to be stucked to really hot temperature but adding a little force to the other side of the fosset did fix it to more reasonable temperatures.

My husband and I only stayed one night here — we wish we could have stayed longer! Our comfortable room had a large terrace overlooking the Douro River, there is a nice swimming pool on the property and the views are beautiful! The included breakfast was delicious and substantial, and the dinner we had there was quite good. This is a family-owned place and the owner’s son Paolo, who is the manager, was very welcoming and kind. We would return!

Everything about this hotel is top-notch. The room was spacious and comfortable. It's in a lovely rural setting that immediately makes you sigh a huge, "Ahhhhhhh". The bed and pillows were perfectly comfortable. The staff was friendly, gracious and professional. All the food was delicious, we were blown away by their homemade cheeses!

Our stay at Casa do Rio was exceptional. There are 10 rooms with stunning views of the Douro River and vineyards. Our room was spotless and tastefully decorated, and we were welcomed with a plate of fresh figs and white port and all ingredients to make portonics.
The grounds are lovely with an infinity pool overlooking the river and two semi private fresh water dunking pools.
The food and was outstanding! We made our dinner selections earlier in the day and were treated to an exquisite...
