Room was very outdated huge hole in the wall by the door you could tell by the shotty repair they did on the door where obviously probably been kicked in or something bed was extremely uncomfortable. They had a huge TV in the room they're screaming everything which is cool except for you can't watch it with no internet their internet is horrible so if I didn't have my Hotspot I would not have been able to watch any television. Shower was nice about the pressure and nice hot water so that was nice. The staff was outstanding the young galthe young guy and they were both great I'll be back. As long as I can watch TV........

9.6/10 Exceptional! (1,344 reviews)
This historic hotel in downtown Des Moines is beautiful! The lobby is stunning, with a mix of restored beautiful wood beams and arches and chandeliers that are modern but pay homage to the time when the hotel was built. The rooms were beautifully apportioned with very good lighting, and excellent bathroom with a perfect shower, and a comfortable bed. The furnishings were great and had storage for clothes and ample counter/desk space.
The staff was accommodating and friendly. My only issue was that I had to merge two Expedia reservations into a single stay. They were able to let me keep the same room, but due to some kind of error, the record in the computer had me in the wrong room. This led to a pretty long hassle to remedy the issue. I understand the security protocol of needing to accompany me up to the room to verify what I was saying to them, and I appreciate that they followed through with it. However, getting back into my room ended up taking nearly a half hour by the time everything had been verified and fixed. Though the staff were professional and were really only doing their job, it was disappointing to think everything was settled only to find out that it wasn't. Thus four stars rather than 5. But, I still highly recommend the hotel, knowing that this circumstance was unusual.

8.8/10 Excellent! (1,020 reviews)
The room was clean and will maintained. I expected the room to be bigger from the photos online. But it was quite small, even though I booked the king suite. My one complaint would be the breakfast did not have very many options.

"This is just your average hotel. Don't plan on the hot tub working (I am almost positive it doesn't actually work) or the jacuzzi in the room working. You are simply getting just a basic room for a higher price. I was hoping when we chose this location that at least one of those would be working. ..."

"Room was clean, bed and pillows were comfy, pool and hot tub not available, and haven't been for quite some time. Seem to be short on staff, those that they have seem to be trying hard. Breakfast was ok, food could be hotter, and waffle batter was all liquid one day and wouldn't come out of the dispenser ..."
