The building, which opened in the year 2000, is sure to impress with its 40,000 stainless steel scales contoured into a mussel-shell shape, designed by architect Thomas Klumpp. Enter the building and begin your journey through its diverse exhibits.
The section dedicated to technology shows visitors how technical innovation has paved its way through history and hints at what the future might have in store. Learn about gearing mechanisms, transmitting signals and the evolution of the electronic motor. Create flashes of lightning and learn about the differences between human behavior and artificial intelligence.
Find out about your own mind and body in the Humans section. Use all of your senses to learn about perception, communication and cognition, with a range of exciting hands-on activities. Make your way to the gallery focused on nature and learn about the shapes and colors in the environment. Check out weather patterns or find out what an aurora borealis has in common with a firefly.
Inquire about the temporary exhibitions to find out what’s showing during your visit. Catch one of the daily science shows or attend a talk in the science center’s program; however, these are regularly in German.
A section dedicated to Universum®’s younger visitors promotes learning through play. Bigger kids can go wild in the outdoor area, which has fun play equipment, experiments and activities to help them learn about the themes of wind and water. Re-energize at Universum®’s on-site restaurant or café.
Universum® Bremen is located near the University of Bremen. Ride a bus or tram from Bremen’s main railway station to the Universum® in 30 to 40 minutes. The science center is open daily and offers discounted admission for children and students.
