Normandy 80th Anniversary of D Day

Our host was such a warm and friendly person. His English was pretty good and he was very helpful with sight seeing tips and providing maps with places to visit. We were there for the 80th anniversary of D Day. Saw most of the sights but not all. Five days isn’t enough time. Location is a small village, Villers-ser-Met, with some decent shopping, multiple restaurants and multiple bakeries. We had an Ocean view across the street but not from our room. Rooms were tight but very clean and comfortable. We weren’t planning to spend much time in our room. The dining room had a French breakfast available for about 17 Euros each. All item’s provided were locally sourced. There was a bar if you wanted to buy a drink like beer or a spirit. This building was built in the late 1800’s so it is very European. The village did not suffer any damage in World War II. People were pretty friendly and most but not all spoke passable English. It was a fairly long drive to D Day memorial sites, from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours but well worth the effort. Towns were jammed with military vehicles and soldier actors. Seemed strange to see 82nd and 101st Airborne soldiers all speaking French. But it was worth the trip. We have been to France 3 times. This was our first visit to Normandy and we just loved it.

Dday trip

Very friendly and informative welcome. The only negative for us as an older couple was the lack of a lift to the upper room (11). One piece of advice when hosting British visitors is to supply milk for tea and coffee.

Nous avons particulièrement apprécié l'emplacement de l'hotel, en plein coeur de Villers et devant la plage. L'accueil est très sympa. Déco du bar et coin salon de thé très sympa. Super petit-déjeuner, avec des produits locaux vraiment excellents, servi face à la mer: un vrai bonheur! En revanche, petite déception sur la chambre double supérieure sans charme ni déco (dommage pour un "boutique hotel").

Das Hotel ist frisch und geschmackvoll renoviert. Das Zimmer Nr.12 ist gross und gemütlich. Es ist sauber und angenehm. Guter günstiger Parkplatz im Hinterhof. Sehr netter Besitzer. Grossartige Lage am Strand und im Städtchen. Das Frühstück könnte reichhaltiger sein. Uns fehlte guter Kaffee aus Espressomaschine.

Uitstekende locatie - Uiterst vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel (= eigenaren) - Aangename atmosfeer. Jammer dat kamer geen douche heeft (slechts niet afgeschermd bad) en dat lounge/bar al om 20:00 uur gesloten zijn.
