Upon entering Room 424, we were immediately met with an overwhelming odor consistent with mildew, mold, and animal waste. The smell was so pervasive that even breathing through our mouths, we could still taste it in the air.
After nearly 12 hours on the road, we fully intended to shower, grab dinner, and get some sleep. Instead, we spent our time determining whether the room was even suitable to occupy. During our inspection, in addition to the pervasive smell, we found multiple maintenance and cleanliness issues, including damaged flooring, heavily worn and stained cabinetry and countertops, evidence of water damage under the sink, burn marks, damaged trim, and an air freshener on max that appeared to be *attempting* to mask the odor rather than address it.
The room was simply not reasonably habitable. We returned to the front desk, explained that the room smelled of mildew, mold, and animal waste, and informed them that we would NOT be staying. We then paid for a room at another hotel because there was NO WAY we could have slept there!!!
