We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is an old building that has been renovated, but has kept the feel of old world charm. Keep in mind if you stay here there are steps in odd areas that you need to watch out for. It is easy to trip and fall. The old woodwork is amazing, as well as are the stone stairs. Would highly recommend to stay here.

A gem in the heart of York!
This property is a gem right in the heart of York, a stone's throw from the Minster. It has history (walls from a thousand years ago, royal visits), period decorations and amazing character. The long gallery is a great place to sit and chat. In fact we had my daughter and her partner over for drinks one night just to enjoy that wonderful space. The rooms were very comfortable and the food was great and filling each morning. You had a number of flavourful choices each day and not your basic bacon and eggs either (although they have that too). Most importantly, the staff are all highly attentive and care about the property, its history and providing the greatest care possible. This is an easy 5 star review and I hope to be back soon.

Weekend break
Ideal location and gated parking on site. Hotel outstanding and made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. After a day and evening exploring the streets of York it was good to relax in the superb surroundings of the lounge bar with a glass or two of vino blanco. 🙂

Just simply lovely! Attention to detail, nothing is too much trouble. Attentive, efficient, friendly staff. Excellent location for Minster and the city centre. Betty’s is a must for afternoon tea!

A g of a find right next to York Minster
Fabulous hotel with great staff in the centre of York. The staff were really friendly and the owner took time out to tell us about the history of the hotel. A lovely lady. The hotel oozes character and warmth. We will definitely be back. A great find.

Fab hotel
Booked this hotel for a long weekend as the location seemed perfect to stretch the legs and see what York had to offer. Hotel was amazing as were the staff straight off being very welcoming and going above and beyond to hightlight everything the hotel had to offer as well as highlighting key points of interest in York to visit. A special mention has to go to the breakfast included as well. Was superb and a great start to the days walking we undertook.

The age , history, elegance of the property, its location a stones throw from the Minster. Superb cannot fault this hotel.

Absolute perfection. This hotel not only has the most amazing decor and rooms but also is run with such love and care and boasts the best location in York with its own stunning established gardens and exclusive access to the wall. You must stay here. It is a perfect experience which you will not find anywhere else.
