"There actually was not a breakfast. However, the hotel includes a charming pub where we enjoyed an excellent pub lunch. As a whole we very much enjoyed the White Horse Inn. Our room seemed a little small and we shared a bathroom. We did find a restaurant within a short walking distance where we enjoyed breakfast. "

"The room was nice and big. The staff were friendly. The location was great, near lots of pubs and restaurants. The pub is good too, with friendly people.
Not necessarily suited for young children on friday night as the area is loud until 0030, although it did quieten down once bars were shut. The shower water pressure in the evening seemed a lot lower than the morning."

"Stayed at Harbour Hotel Brighton for my partner’s 30th birthday and honestly left disappointed. We arranged for a bottle of champagne and strawberries to be waiting in the room on arrival. Instead, we were delivered a warm bottle of Prosecco and told the champagne would arrive the next day. Despite mentioning it multiple times throughout the stay, it never appeared. The biggest issue though was the condition of the rooms. The first room was dirty, tired, and poorly maintained. Stains throughout the carpets, marks on furniture, rusty shower fittings, dirty skirting boards, grimy areas around the bathroom, and general lack of upkeep. We were moved to another room, but even that had stains all over the carpet and still felt worn out and neglected. To make matters worse, we received no housekeeping service until we specifically asked for it. The spa experience was mixed. My partner’s facial was apparently lovely, and the staff themselves were polite whenever we spoke to them, but the spa area also looked tired and poorly maintained. I also came out in a rash after using the hot tub, which made me question whether the chemical balance was being properly monitored. Despite booking a £100 treatment, there was still an extra £10 charge just to use the spa facilities, which felt a bit cheap for a hotel positioning itself as four-star luxury. This doesn’t seem like bad luck either — after looking through Google reviews, there are plenty of photos showing very similar room conditions."
"Great stay at The Grand in Brighton.
Nice large room with ac which was very welcome in the 30 degree heat!
The Spa was beautiful and very relaxing. Location was perfect for exploring Brighton.
I would definitely stay there again."
"This review isn’t a reflection of the staff, who were friendly and enthusiastic throughout. In fact, I wasn’t planning to leave one until the hotel’s dog policy completely changed my mind.
If you want a cheap stay and can tolerate the quirks of a tired 3-star hotel, this place is fine. But if you expect much more, you’ll be disappointed.
The biggest issue was the dog charge. When booking, it was advertised as £10 per night, but at check-in we were suddenly told it was £20 per dog, per night. One of our nights cost £68, meaning nearly a 30% surcharge just for bringing a dog. No bed, treats, bowls or extras were provided, and rooms aren’t even serviced daily unless requested, so it felt like pure “guest tax.” After some back and forth they honoured the original £10, but only after insisting it had always been £20. That alone is why this is a 1-star review.
Other issues:
Lift broken the entire stay on the 3rd floor
Champagne ordered for the room never arrived
Wonky floors and damaged walls left unattended
Broken ceiling light and blocked shower tray
The evening entertainment felt awkwardly empty, and while the afternoon tea was good value, the setting didn’t match the experience it was trying to create. The staff were lovely and doing their best.
Ultimately, this hotel needs investment and attention from ownership. The staff can only do so much. With the recent BHGroup acquisition, hopefully improvements come soon. But for now, I’d suggest spending that extra £20 elsewhere."
"We went to the Alfriston hotel to celebrate our anniversary
The room was average not really up to our expectations
Also the room was unbearably hot with windows wide open all night and the cheap pifco fan to try to keep the room cool which had little or no effect
My wife had a swim in the pool and afterwards smelt like she had been swimming in a river
We went to explore the village early evening had a very pleasant time in the quaint pubs
Arrived back at the hotel at 2030 wanting to get something to eat to be told we could get a packet of crisps which was another disappointment
The breakfast was ok could have been hotter
But the staff were very pleasant
But in all honesty for what we paid it was very disappointing and wouldn’t entertain paying to go back"
"The reception staff were helpful and very nice, we have stayed at this hotel many times and no to take bottles of water whilst in room, I do feel though that at least 2 bottles should be provided it’s not a budget price hotel, the bath plug was blocked which we did inform the reception at check out for future guests ."
"Started bad when I booked as a disabled guest that couldn't do stairs & they put me on 1st floor with a broken lift... Their answer was at 9pm after a long journey was to put me in their other hotel a 10min walk away (HELLO DISABLED), made them carry my bags up & I struggled in pain upstairs... Room & bed was old & outdated.. had no double glazing & had a gate banging outside all night.... Had lots of random wires hinging down in the room... Thought it would be nice to have a full sized bath in the room but couldn't get any hot water.. pillows were so thin I had 4 stacked up & was still not enough... Met up with colleague in the morning who was also in the hotel & she also had similar bad experiences... Tried to talk to reception in morning to ask for refund as was so angry about stay but they spoke very little English it was pointless...
Definitely won't stay again & won't recommend... On my companies blacklist"
