Wonderful Stay

This is an excellent hotel. Everything from staff to the appearance to cleanliness to breakfast was awesome. We also each had a massage. Wonderful! Only disappointment was the pool was not a single due to construction. It is close to mega shopping and lots of restaurants and of course the river. We had a river view and loved riding in and watching the Gondolas. We will definitely stay there again. Also We arrived on my husband’s birthday and we went out to dinner and when we returned back to our room the staff had left a tray of fruit and parties and a bottle of wine with a birthday card. An excellent touch.

This is a wonderful hotel directly on the canal. The staff is amazing. Couples massage was wonderful. We were treated like royalty after a bad experience in Porto in the Portus Cale Hotel. Highly recommend this hotel, it was exceptional!

Meliá ría was great! Location and property are really good . Breakfast as well. The only odd thing is that they charge you for the pool use, that having kids it’s a must. This wasn’t clear when booking

Melia Ria has a perfect location, just a few minutes walk from the main attractions in this small town. The hotel is an excellent option when you are doing a road trip through Portugal, we were doing Porto to Lisbon and chose this stop to enjoy this small but charming town and also Costa Nova, pretty close to there. The facility is good, it has a good restaurant and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The parking of the hotel is very small and annoying, but there are options for free in the neighborhood, honestly, trying to use the underground parking that they will charge daily was a waste of time.

If you want to use pool or gym there is a 15€/hour fee you have to pay. If you want to park you pay 9€/day. There are much better options for the same price, unfortunately I didn’t notice this before booking. Employees were very rude, very different from what I was expecting of a premium service. Rooms are old and not very well cleaned. On the more positive side bed is comfortable and breakfast is amazing.

This seems most like a conference hotel. Perfectly nice, nice breakfast, nice spa and workout room, where we had very nice massages, nice staff. While the canal ends at the hotel, it is not very scenic. If we hadn't needed a king bed, an elevator and a/c, we would have looked for something more traditional near the original canals. Also, we made the mistake of thinking a canal boat ride would take us past the striped boat houses, but it doesn't. (Poor research on our part.) They are in Costa Nova. No real reason to visit Aveiro unless you can do a day trip to Costa Nova.

Location, staff, and property conditions were excellent. My only complaint is that expectations should be set when booking. Great pics of the pool were shown, but they don't tell you the pool must be reserved for you to use it. We were a large party and found it disappointing. Second, let us know water is only free in the room the first day. If I would have known, I would purchase water for the room. We woke up in the middle of the night extremely thirsty, with no water.

Great stay, highly recommend!

The location was great, very walkable to shops and restaurants. We appreciate the covered parking which was very secure. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and extra pillows were available. There was plenty of closet and storage space. We appreciated having coffee/tea available in the room with the kettle. The bathroom was clean with a very nice shower and good size countertop for storing toiletries. One of the best things was the restaurant and bar in the hotel. We enjoyed a light meal at the bar the night of our arrival; friendly service and excellent food. The breakfast buffet was terrific, great food quality and selection. The full english breakfast was a special treat that we don't get to enjoy very often. Food items were fresh, replenished regularly and staff kept tables clean between guests. Staff members were friendly, polite and helpful.

It is lack of enough staff. First night, suddenly we wake up at 3 am with a tribble noise due to strong wind causing the window to be open. We could not closed it and lot of rain was entering into our room affecting our stuffs. Went down to reception, he offer to change our room but there no one to help us to get our stuff to move the the new room. I asked for a bottle of water, no room service was available after midnight and also no any water bottle was available to be taken to our room. Receptionist offered to go to the spa and take some water in a cup from a machine. I’ve been to Malia in many places around and I was expecting surely much Aveiro deserve much better hotel service.
