Car Rental Hongo-cho

After you've ticked off the interesting attractions in Hongo-cho, there's more to explore in the surrounding region. Pick up the keys to a rental car, toss your luggage in the trunk and take to the open road. Here are some road trips we know you'll enjoy:

• Okayama Prefecture is about 60 miles from Hongo-cho. Notable attractions like Okayama Castle deserve a place on your must-see list while you're in town.
• Your next stop? Make it Hofu, which is around 85 miles away. Mori Museum and Garden is one local draw card you really shouldn't miss.
• Kyoto Tower is about 160 miles from Hongo-cho and is one of the region's most scenic nature spots. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the fresh air here.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Japan, then you may need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence to be allowed to rent a car. It's also important to note that if you do need an IDP, it won't be valid on its own. You'll be asked to show your current license your passport and other forms of ID as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card used to book the rental matches the name on your driver's license and passport. Some added requirements for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You'll need to be at least 25 in most places to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it might still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of vehicles available to rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the rules and regulations before you drive away. You typically can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or go off-roading with a rental vehicle.
