This is such a lovely spot. The location is convenient to food and attractions and the manager is incredibly nice and helpful. Comfortable bed, hot shower, nice garden though it stormed when I was there so I didn’t really use it. Would definitely visit Ferrara and stay at this locanda again.

Besides the five stars I gave for cleanliness, friendly staff, and free parking, the continental breakfast was substantial and of excellent quality. The reservation we had made at a different hotel had fallen apart and we found this one on Expedia. We arrived around 10:40 pm well after the other guests had. Very nice rooms and common areas. Great location right across from the Este castle.

My husband and I were not so sure we had made a good choice as our cab drove us to this destination and the last 1/2 mile was a dirt road. It’s in a very remote location so we would definitely recommend anyone staying here has a vehicle! The property is expansive with gardens and grapevines. Rita, the owner, went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. The 2 nights we stayed she cooked us delicious & authentic homemade meals, complete with wine that is bottled on the property. Found Principessa Pio on an Internet search of places in Ferrara. The photos looked great, but they frequently do, while the places often fail to live up to them. Not so in this case. The Pio has just a few rooms along with a restaurant in a recently renovated barn. The fit and finish are of a very high order with a minimal aesthetic throughout.
