About this property

Cape Cod Cottage, Short Walk to Wequaquet Lake Private Beach and Cranberry Bogs

  • Welcome to Cranberry Hollow Cottage, A three bedroom, two bath cottage on an acre of land just steps from our private neighborhood beach on the east-side of Wequaquet Lake cove that gives you sun all day and photo-worthy, spectacular sunsets.

This property is family owned, not corporate owned.

This recently updated 1100 sq ft family cottage in Centerville, MA gives you a taste of everything that we love about Cape Cod. It was originally built in the 1940s and has a newly renovated kitchen, bathrooms, mudroom, updated bedrooms and living areas and a large Weber gas grill and outdoor dining area.

We recently fenced in the back yard with wire fencing and two cedar wood two-door swinging gates.

The house is in a neighborhood known for walkers, friendly faces walking dogs, pushing baby carriages or simply exercising in the fresh air.

In addition to a deeded rights to a neighborhood private beach, a unique feature we offer with this house is access to a walking trail around cranberry bogs. Follow the short woodland trail out the back of the property to a cranberry bog with a dirt road that takes you around two functional bogs full of growing cranberries.

Then grab your beach towels and walk down the street for a quick dip in a lake or spend the day on the beaches along a pretty little cove via our deeded lakeside beach rights. No need to pack a car, just a short walk from the front door. (We love to spend mornings at the ocean and finish the day on the lake, the best of both worlds are nearby!)

Have a boat on a trailer? Cranberry Hollow is less than a mile from the public boat landing on Wequaquet Lake. Wequaquet is known for almost year-round bass fishing, and in the warm weather, sailboats and power boats share the lake. Jet skis are not permitted to be launched from the public landing unless they are kept by lakefront owners.

This property is located halfway between North Side and South Side Cape Cod public ocean beaches. The famous "Southside" beach on Nantucket Sound, Craigville Beach, is 10 minutes away and the beautiful "Northside" Sandy Neck beach on Sandy Neck Conservation area is 15 minutes away. Hop on the Mid-Cape Highway and you are one hour from the stunning beaches at the Cape Cod National Seashore.

There are movie theaters and mini-golf and ice creams shops and harbor tours and whale watches all within driving distance. We are on the "Mid-Cape" right in the MIDDLE of Cape Cod and ready to host your best vacation, ever!

Its just two miles to major grocery stores, and another mile to the Cape Cod Mall, Target etc. We are 10 minutes from bars and restaurants of Main Street, Hyannis and the commercial fishing and ferry docks in Hyannis.

We take bookings year-round. Consider the fall when our whole area fills with colors, cranberries are harvested in mid to late October and as we approach fall the bog begins to display the colors of the red berries. In the spring, walking trails, beaches and marshes are prime for bird watching, while ocean fishing is active as the ocean currents transition. Or experience a true New England winter as the holidays twinkle and bundle up and see the beauty of Cape Cod without all the crowds.

    Amenities:

In addition to our two bathrooms with showers, we have an outdoor shower with hot and cold water from spring through late fall.

For excellent outdoor cooking and dining, we provide a provide a grill and outdoor table and chairs.

And we will also provide beach towels and beach chairs to use at the beaches.

Be sure to have your Merlin app ready to identify the many varieties of birds that come to the feeder, and live in the woods in back and the swamp across the street. Listen in the evening and into the night to the low baritone of the bullfrogs in the marsh across the street and the occasional hoot of an owl in the trees. Hear screeches and watch osprey over lake, hawks over the bogs and new: there are eagles living on the other side of the lake who occasionally visit our cove to fish. There is always a resident blue heron in the cove. If you are lucky, you will see the shy muskrat fishing for muscles. All types of turtles hang out in the cove and you can play the game, "is that a leaf or stick, or a turtle popping it's head above the water?"

We love it here and live about 5 miles away, so if there are any issues we can help at any time.

The hosts are the most detailed and caring I have seen, providing tons of valuable info in their welcome book. It is apparent that they truly care about their property. They also left great snacks and are fully stocked with the basics, which is very much appreciated. The lake is serene and lovely, and the neighborhood is peaceful.

We had a wonderful stay! The cozy house was stocked with everything we could ask for. Communication was great, there were games for the kids to play with, and our dog loved the fenced in yard and beautiful neighborhood to walk in!

Pros: location is wonderful - just a short walk to a neighborhood beach that we had to ourselves or only 1-2 other people all weekend, so many extras in the VRBO (packs of chips/snacks/seltzer, toiletries, beach chairs/towels, extra pillows and sheets), AC in every room worked well to keep the place cool, owners are doing a great job renovating the house but maintaining some of the vintage charm, the bathrooms have been redone and all appliances are brand new, comfortable beds and couch and nice big TV. Cons: backyard is buggy (they provide bug spray!) and the house has a subtle cigar/smoke smell that you do notice less the more time in the home

Cranberry Hollow cottage was the perfect stay for us and the dogs. We were on Cape for a dog event for the weekend. There is nothing this host had left out. Welcoming note and plenty of snack welcomed us. Cozy and super clean cottage. Host was only a text away.A Nor’easter shared part of our stay so the washer/dryer and fenced in yard was a huge bonus for us. Unfortunately due to the weather, unable to use the beautiful lake beach. This was our second year staying at Cranberry Hollow cottage and looking forward to next year’s stay.

Had a great stay

Everything about this place was perfect, from location to the hosts. Janet and jp went above and beyond and we cant thank them enough. They have literally thought of everything in this house! They have done a great job with renovations and it was neat to see the before pictures. Walking around the cranberry bog was very nice, it would be cool to see it during the harvest! The location is perfect. You have the best of both worlds, a beautiful lake steps away and the ocean and tons of things to do minutes away. We are so grateful that we were able to have our dogs with us and have one last family vacation with one of them. We hated to leave and cant wait to come back!

Long Weekend getaway with our dogs

Was on Cape for the weekend for dog event and needed a place that was dog friendly and comfortable for the humans and we found it in this quant cottage. Cozy and clean with older charm with modern amenities. Quiet neighborhood with a nice yard and a cranberry bog in back offered a nice walk with the dogs. Disappointed that we did not have time to get down to the lake during our short stay. Communication with host was very good. They were always available via text if needed. They also were very accommodating to our requests. Certainly, would not hesitate to stay again for a longer duration and get to enjoy more of the area.

Perfect House, even better than the description. Host was incredibly accommodating, from allowing early check-in, late checkout, and even letting us bring all three of our dogs. I have never stayed at a house that was so thoughtfully prepared. There was fresh flowers, and a fresh herb bouquet on the tables. A bowl of fresh fruit and three baskets of snacks. Which actually ended up being our breakfast. A large assortment of coffee k-cups and hot chocolate and creamers, I’m always worried that I won’t have my 1st cup of coffee in the morning. There were toothbrushes and toiletries and plenty of bath/beach towels provided. We love the fenced in yard for the dogs and enjoyed playing the provided board games and basketball on their paved hoop out back, and had a fire in their fire pit. They even had a signed/blankets and dog dishes. We went for a short walk to the lake and also to the cranberry bog. Just a 30 minute drive to the Atlantic ocean and Nauset Beach. We haven’t been to Cape Cod in over 10 years and can’t wait to come back again next summer with even more family. Thank you Janet and JP

This is a great house! It was very well stocked and had everything we needed. Host is amazing and very responsive. They had welcome bowls of snacks for us to indulge on. We forgot to bring our tea bags for the morning and they even had those for us! It was a very clean and comfortable house. There's a great fire pit outside and my sons really enjoyed the outdoor shower! It was a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend booking this house. Would definitely stay here again! Thank you Janet and JP!
