About this property

Rustic Clam, a family friendly and dog friendly cabin with fenced in back yard.

  • Please note: The cabin was recently re-stained gray in 2024. You may see photos from prior years as well as a few updated images reflecting the current look.

Rustic Clam is a cozy and comfortable 3-bedroom, 1-bath log vacation cabin nestled on the wooded shores of Lower Clam Lake, offering a true Northwoods experience in the heart of the Chequamegon National Forest. At this location, the West Fork of the Chippewa River flows out of Lower Clam Lake over a historic logging-era rock dam, creating a peaceful and scenic setting.

New in 2026, we have added a mini split which serves as an air conditioner for the cabin. The cabin also features a welcoming deck and a spacious yard overlooking the lake, complete with a fire pit, grill, twinkle lights, patio furniture, benches around the fire pit, and a picnic table—perfect for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. In 2022, we added brand-new living room furniture, a new dock, and a chain-link fence in the backyard. Since purchasing the cabin in 2018, we’ve made several additional upgrades, including new beds on the lower level, a futon, new flooring throughout, and updated appliances.

Guests have access to a private dock, along with a rowboat, canoe, and newer pedal boat included with the rental. You may also launch your own boat from the side of the property, which provides easy access to our private dock.

Rustic Clam is a very quiet property and includes a charming footbridge that crosses the mouth of the Chippewa River and leads to a neighboring property. The gentle sound of flowing water can be heard from the cabin, and if you open the window in the back bedroom, you may fall asleep to this peaceful natural soundtrack. The cabin sits on a small back bay that opens into Lower Clam Lake. Near the dock is a small sandy/gravel area, ideal for kids and wading. While we personally don’t swim much (fish tend to make an appearance ), many guests enjoy floating in the calm back bay, and swimming is occasionally seen in the main lake as well. The lake is quiet with minimal water traffic.

This red pine log cabin includes a living room, fully equipped kitchen, and full bathroom with tub/shower. There are two main-floor bedrooms—one with a queen bed and one with a full bed—as well as a loft bedroom featuring a twin bed and futon that sleeps two. The living room offers a smart TV, a retro wood-burning fireplace, and a selection of games, books, and magazines for your enjoyment. The kitchen is fully stocked and includes a microwave, gas stove, full-size refrigerator, coffee maker, crock pot, toaster, dishes, pots, pans, and most essentials you’ll need during your stay.

Linens are provided; however, towels are not included, so please plan to bring your own.

Lower Clam Lake is known for excellent fishing, including walleye, musky, crappie, and bluegill, as well as generally calm waters for kayaking, boating, and relaxing. Located within the Chequamegon National Forest, the area offers easy access to snowmobile, ATV, skiing, hiking, and biking trails, along with abundant wildlife and breathtaking fall colors. Clam Lake is also proudly known as the Elk Capital of Wisconsin, and it’s common to spot these majestic animals during your stay.

The town of Clam Lake features a couple bars/restaurants, and a convenience store/gas station, while the surrounding area is home to classic Wisconsin supper clubs and other great dining options.

We are pet-friendly and welcome well-behaved dogs. The fenced backyard provides a safe space for your furry friends and small children. Please be responsible by picking up after your pets and keeping them leashed when outside the fenced area. The surrounding forest is vast, and we want to ensure your pet’s safety as well as maintain respect for neighboring cabins and homes. A pet fee of 50.00 per dog will be charged.

Fishing trip with friends!

We had a great stay! The cabin is very nice. Beds were comfy. Everyone in the area was helpful with fishing tips. Our only complaint would be there is no air conditioning only fans.

Rustic Cozy Little Cabin

The cabin is located in a nice peaceful area. It has a great private dock & the ease of launching our kayaks was wonderful. This cozy little cabin had all of the amenities a person could want or need. Communication from the host was great, also. They were very helpful with directions to the cabin once we got to the area & about other things. Definately a nice peaceful, relaxing stay.

The nicest getaway!

We had an absolute blast at this property! It was a little small for us 5 plus our two large dogs but we made it work and loved being able to have access to the lake to fish or kayak whenever we wanted! The hosts were amazing and answered every question I threw their way. We also got to ride the nearby trails and those were FUN! 10/10 recommend this place! It was quite a hike for us (8-9 hour drive) but worth it!

Great communication

Had one small issue. As soon as I contacted the home owner she bent over backwards to make it right. Found her to be a lovely hostess and enjoyed our stay. We also saw elk and caught a couple nice muskies from the lake. Thank you for an incredible get away.

Clam Lake Days

We had a fabulous time at the cabin! It was rustic enough to feel like a cabin, but cozy enough to feel like glamping. The protected lake cove was the best. We could take the paddle boat around and float on the floaties since the cove was calmer than the big lake. The dogs loved it too! It was ideal to let the dogs swim and then have the fenced in yard for them to dry off in. Family time was easy, playing games, swimming, and taking day trips to nearby towns. We loved it!

This is a beautiful vacation spot! It is located on a back bay of Lower Clam Lake. There is a footbridge going over a small waterfall in the back of the property. I went to sleep to the sound of the waterfall every night, it was heavenly! It was a relatively quiet lake, with minimal motorboat traffic. That was ideal for us, since we kayaked and swam every day. A significant part of the lakeshore was uninhabited, which was ideal for spotting wildlife - eagles, loons, great blue heron, and lots of other birds. The kitchen is very well stocked, good quality cookware. Communication with the host was excellent. I highly recommend this property! All 6 of us had an amazing week!

Perfect Getaway

Adorable cabin! Felt like home. Quiet location. Wasn't able to enjoy swimming in the lake too much due to cold weather, so was grateful for Netflix for the little ones! Cabin was fully stocked with everything we needed for our stay. EXTREMELY comfortable beds!!! The book Julie has that gives ideas and locations for things to do was very handy. Kids did a lot of hiking, went into Hayward for a day, dining options were helpful also. Overall, the accommodations were fantastic and VERY clean! Our much needed family vacation was a success! Thank you so very much Julie!

Excellent communication

The Rustic Clam is an excellent place for my family to enjoy the Northwoods. This is our 2nd time staying at the Rustic Clam and our whole family looks forward to the visit. The cabin is well equipped for cooking, a great lounging space, and a loft that my 5 and 8 year-old love. Due to the lack of snow and change in our Birkie events, Julie had several suggestions for meals and activities in addition to the outstanding binder of information in the welcome basket. This year we ventured up to Copper Falls State Park and had the entire Doughboy waterfall hike almost to ourselves! Julie has been really quick to answer any questions that we have. Rustic Clam is a gem on VRBO.

Adorable cabin, quite,peaceful.

We loved the cabin and it was a peaceful place. The sound of the waterfall was really special and the neighbers weren't too close, just close enough to give you a feeling of security. The enclosed area for the dogs was super. We sat out there and the dogs could roam. That was great them not have to always be leashed. The hosts couldnt have been nicer. Alway replied right away and went out of their way to make our stay special. The only thing i wished was that there was someplace to go for a walk without driving. The only place was along the highway and it was fairly busy and the traffic was fast. Everything is private property. No little trails to walk through the woods. We are thinking of renting this place again next year. property give you asecurity

Our stay overall was great! The cabin was very clean and authentic with exposed logs throughout. The beach front was very picturesque with the waterfall and bridge in a secluded lagoon like area of the lake. Good fishing and low recreational traffic on the lake as well. There was firewood for sale nearby for 5 a bundle. It was nice to be close to the ATV trails and national forests. Only con is that the photos were a bit deceiving regarding the seclusion of the cabin. It is surrounded by other cabins but all of the neighbors we met we're very friendly. Would stay again.

We really enjoyed our time at Clam Lake! The cabin was comfortable, cozy, and well equipped for my husband, myself, and our 16 yr old. We especially loved the water access and the quiet little cove behind the house, which was perfect for relaxing, throwing a line in off the dock, and launching and docking our personal bass boat and kayaks for a week in late June. It was a little warm for fishing but we did catch some panfish and had several bites from bigger fish. We chose to load our boat at the public dock that had a concrete ramp. The mini split and provided fans kept us comfortable during our stay and Julie was very responsive and accommodating. The Clam Lake Junction 5 mins down the road was perfect for grabbing quick and easy meals and bait for the week. We also spent an afternoon at nearby Spider Lake Golf course. Overall, it was perfect for a relaxing outdoor trip and I would love to come back soon!

We enjoyed the privacy and quiet of the cabin. I think all of us were in a much better state of mind after our stay, coming from the rat race in Illinois. The cabin is thoughtfully equipped with everything you just might need! Julie is an excellent host and a great communicator. We got to enjoy seeing a baby elk on our first morning there right in the yard by the lake. We enjoyed the unique waterfall and bridge. We appreciated the fenced in yard for our dogs.

Cabin was nice. The deck was very peaceful, especially with the waterfall down near the dock. Caught plenty of fish off the dock which was fun. Everything that you would need, they had there. Julie was very fast on getting back to you which was great.

Property as stated in description- we loved it! Roomy enough for the 4 of us plus a big dog. Fenced in area was absolutely a game changer for our dog (and us) so she didn’t have to be on a tie out. We did a ton of fishing (decent catches), swimming and hanging out. Used a couple of the boats too. Air split kept things very comfortable and we enjoyed each night eating on the deck. Gas stations and food 3 miles away, and Hayward was only 30 minutes down the road. Went to the farmers market on Monday and found a bagful of local produce and homemade items. We all agreed we would come here again on our next Wisconsin adventure!

Wonderful cabin with our furry friends

My husband and I stayed for a weekend in August with our two dogs and it was the perfect weekend away. The cabin is beautifully done and very welcoming. Having the fenced in backyard for the dogs was the real win for us, I’d highly recommend staying here, my husband and I would book again in a heartbeat.

Peaceful Getaway

This was the perfect location for a relaxing few days away. It was a great home base for our day trips up to Bayfield, Copper Falls, and Lake Namakogan for swimming. The back yard made for an excellent place to relax around a fire after the day’s activities. The cabin was clean and well equipped for our stay. Would recommend for anyone looking to spend a peaceful long weekend away!
