Scenic World in Katoomba offers an entryway to the heritage-listed Blue Mountains on one of the world’s steepest passenger trains. Enjoy the views from the train before taking a ride high in the sky on the Scenic Cableway. Established in 1945, the family-owned business provides one of the most exciting ways to view the famous Three Sisters rock formations.
Travel through a cliff tunnel on the Scenic Railway toward the Jamison Valley. Onboard, adjustable seats let you increase the thrills, with steep inclines to match the railway route. The tracks were originally built in the late 19th century for the Katoomba coal mine and now boast a Guinness Book of Records entry as the world’s steepest.
A ride on the Scenic Skyway delivers spectacular views of Katoomba Falls and the Three Sisters. Glide across the cliff tops and look down on the rainforest canopy through glass cabin floors. There’s plenty of history to learn about too. Established in 1958, the Skyway is the largest aerial cable car in the Southern Hemisphere, and it was the country’s first cable car.
Change views on the Scenic Cableway with a ride down into the Jamison Valley in a fully enclosed cabin with panoramic viewing windows. You’ll get a close-up look at the sandstone cliffs that form Orphan Rock and Mt. Solitary. After the return trip, disembark onto the Scenic Walkway to explore on the ground.
The elevated boardwalk winds through the temperate rainforest of the Jamison Valley. Spot native plants and animals while learning about coal mining history at the replica miners’ cabin. Check the schedule for special events held each year, such as The Gruffalo Spotters Trail. The augmented reality experience follows a children's book character, The Gruffalo, through the forest.
Take a break at the Terrace Café and buy souvenirs in the retail space.
