The rains did come in the late afternoons and the trekking was a little muddy, but I think it is likely the best time to gorilla trek and/or look for the golden monkeys. “We were only here for one night, but Frances was a great host. The room as clean and comfortable, and he provided a good breakfast. We opted not to go to Volcanoes National Park, but Frances provided us with a great guide, who took us to Twin Lakes. On that trip we met MANY wonderful Rwandans out in the countryside, and saw beautiful scenery. “Nightmarish experience. I was traveling with a friend who wanted his own room. We booked this hotel at the last minute as it was close to the NP HQs. We arrived at 7 pm to find no front desk, just a bar area that was manned by a young lady who stated that we couldn’t stay as the owner had not been paid.
