The room (river-facing junior suite) was clean and comfortable, but staff are poorly trained. Check-in was slow, and basic information had to be requested (is breakfast included, etc. - answer: yes). We booked two rooms and the second room was not ready at 4pm, despite check-in starting at 3pm. I asked whether we could check out an hour late and got a blank stare and a “no”. As a Expedia VIP member, I was given a $12 food and beverage voucher for each room. We therefore decided to have an evening drink in the hotel lounge (the breakfast area). We were informed they do not do mixed cocktails, but after some head-scratching they were able to put an ounce of rum in a glass (no ice) and provide a can of Coke to be self-poured. I then tried to use the vouchers to pay for the drinks and was informed the vouchers can only be used for purchases from the “marketplace” - the small snack shop beside the check-in counter. Breakfast is semi-buffet, but an employee must dish out the hot food - eggs, bacon, potatoes - from behind a table; presumably the hotel worries guests will over-indulge in scrambled eggs. Despite the “do not disturb” sign still on our door, and an 11am check-out time, housekeeping knocked on our door at 10:15 to bluntly ask when we were leaving. I will not be returning to the Chateau Moncton.
