Ranked among Austria’s top ski resorts, this area is one of the country’s snowiest and sunniest snow sport destinations.

The Nassfeld-Pressegger See ski area offers more than 68 miles (110 kilometers) of snow-covered slopes. The resort is said to receive over 100 hours more sunshine per year than the resorts north of the Alps. Record yourself skiing on a race course, ride the longest cable car in Austria and enjoy the resort’s blend of Austrian and Italian influences.

Accessible from the village of Troepolach, 5 miles (8 kilometers) from Hermagor, the Millennium Express cable car stretches up 4 miles (6 kilometers) to Nassfeld. Ride this scenic cable car to enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding lakes and mountains and to access the resort’s more than 35 well-groomed slopes.

Freeriders and snowboarders can head to the Nassfeld Snowpark, located near the Gartnerkofel chairlift. Check out the Kicker Line’s four kickers, which shoot skiers and boarders up to 45 feet (14 meters) in the air. Head to the easier 10-foot-long (3-meter) Flat Box to warm up or hone your skills.

Experience night skiing on 1.4 miles (2.2 kilometers) of lighted slope on Saturdays throughout January and February. Enjoy one of the longest intermediate and advanced floodlit slopes in the Alps. Novices and young skiers can check out the beginner area near the base of the Millennium Express cable car.

Ski on race courses equipped with video cameras as part of the BMW xDrive Cup. On the ski movie trails “Zweikofel-Abfahrt”(piste No. 77) and"Watschiger-Alm-Abfahrt"(piste No. 3), your run will be filmed and available for download online afterward.

Sample the region’s famous cuisine. The Gailtal Valley’s distinct dried bacon is known for its deep color and smoky flavor. More than 14 traditional cheesemakers in the region produce strong, mature cheeses.

The Nassfeld-Pressegger See is located near the Italian border. To get here, take the train to the main regional station in Villach and then connect to Hermagor. Come experience this destination’s beautiful slopes, blue skies and fantastic cuisine.
