Several scenic riverside parks adorn an island packed with skyscrapers, large shopping centers and some of Seoul’s most important buildings.

The financial district of Seoul, Yeouido-dong is an island filled with towers and futuristic glassy buildings. It also has a range of museums and significant institutions overlooking the Han River, as it flows through the city center. Visit Yeouido-dong to get insights into Seoul’s trade, art and politics as you walk among its giant towers.

Reach the island’s northwestern corner for the National Assembly Building. Dating back to 1975, the structure houses the government’s legislative branch. Admire its elegant façade and relax in the gardens spread across the extensive grounds. Another icon is the IFC Seoul, a complex comprising several tall, glassy towers. Browse the upscale stores in the mall and relax in green spaces decorated with sculptures.

Explore local culture with a trip to the KBS ON Exhibition Hall, a museum dedicated to media broadcasting. It has a radio studio, a movie theater and a news anchor simulator. Gaze up at the immense 63 Square tower, which is 817 feet (249 meters) tall. Rise to the top in a glass elevator and enjoy the glorious views of the river and the Seoul cityscape. Enter the 63 Wax Museum to see models of celebrities, study the works of the Sky Art gallery and spot the array of colorful fish in Aqua Planet 63.

On a pleasant afternoon, stroll beside the river in scenic Yeouido Hangang Park. Nearby is Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park, whose plaques provide information about its native Korean plants.

A little west of Seoul’s city center, Yeouido-dong lies on an island close to a curve of the Han River. Reach the area from the northern side via the Mapo Bridge or the Wonhyo Bridge. You can also travel on the subway or bus to one of the stops on the island. While you’re in the city, make sure to cross into some of the nearby zones, such as Songpa-gu, Dongjak-gu and Yongsan-gu.
