"Due to the holiday season, reception closed at 15:00 hours, so check in was thru an envelope. Rooms are very spacious, bed and showers are good, but it is an ancient structure and building, so don’t expect modern rooms or furniture. Staff when available was very helpful. There are a lot of nice touches- like high tech elevators that both work and make sense, USB plugs where you need them, blinds that automatically deploy when the sun shines on the windows, and thoughtful lighting throughout. The rooms were clean, and furnishings were like new. The breakfast buffet was good, and cooked to order eggs came out quickly. It's only a 5 minute walk to the train station and major tram hub- trams are free and museums are half cost when you stay at certain Basel hotels, including Movenpick."
