A lack of recent rainfall exposed this clay bank along Wright Patman Lake in Bowie County, Texas. Beginning in 800 a.d., Caddo Indians used clay from this region to make their famous pottery. The earthenware pots were made by hand and fired in an open fire. Impurities in the clay had to be removed by hand or sieved out before making fine pottery.
