Cute little cabin, nice walk to the river, fun watching the animals!
We had a fabulous stay in this quaint cottage. Just perfect for a couple wanting to get away from it all and relax. We were immediately greeted by a precious little pup upon our arrival. “Maddie’ made sure to make us feel very welcome. The cottage was exceptionally clean and very well decorated. We loved our stay
My husband and I enjoyed our stay on the farm and had a wonderful time visiting South Mountains Park and Morganton's downtown area. Our weekend getaway was perfect.

First of all thank you so much for opening your farm to us!
It was nice and peaceful! The surrounding area offers lots of beautiful walking trails, and depending on day rover access, on top of the beautiful farm! Did miss out on the farm fresh breakfast so will probably be back!
Clean, welcoming, a wonderful mountain get away
First off, what an adorable little cottage! My husband and I spent the night for our anniversary and had an amazing time! We were able to enjoy the peace and quiet while exploring the property and animals. It felt far enough away from everything, but was still 15 mins from everything. We went downtown for dinner and found some great places to eat. Enjoyed a bonfire and stargazing to end our night. We slept like babies in the silence of the mountains. The family was super nice and very accommodating to our needs. Everything from hooking to check out was simple. We highly recommend this property and we can’t wait to go back for a longer stay soon.
We ended up spending much more time in the cottage than intended - for weather and health reasons. Not very comfortable for long term inside - there is limited seating. But the pictures show that accurately, and the outside area was very nice, with ceiling fans over very comfortable wooden rockers. Nice access to state parks, Morganton has a nice downtown with eateries, and Valdese has interesting museum and really good place for beef - Highlands Butchery. This place works really well for a few days to tour the area.
My husband and I absolutely LOVED our stay at the farm!!! It was as described but so much better in person! We fed the cows apples, took a cold plunge in the Henry River, watched the sunset, had coffee with the cows, enjoyed the fire pit, and loved on Maddie (dog) and Alley (cat). We also enjoyed hiking Hawksbill and South Mountain State Park. Unfortunately, a few places in downtown Morganton were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but that just gave us more time to enjoy the farm. We would absolutely recommend staying at the Cottage!!
Really neat place if you want to get away from city life and enjoy peace and quiet. Owners are very friendly and responsive. I wasn’t there long enough to try the breakfast “which upsets me because I’m sure it would have been delicious”. Plenty of wildlife and stock animals that I’m sure kids would love it. Almost stole their cat though. We became buddies and everytime I would go outside, here came my little buddy to keep me company. I would highly recommend a stay here.
This was an ideal stay as it was only 3 hours from Raleigh NC! The elevation provided a 10 degree cooler temperature. I beat the July heat here with mornings in the mid 60s F!
The host was friendly and gave a tour of the farm. It was fantastic to sip of morning coffee in July and watch highland cows graze, chickens roam and a pig play! Moreover, my son and I explored the Henry River which is adjacent to the property.
From the property we explored, linville gorge, south mountain park, and Blowing Rock.
We loved staying here because it was clean, quite, and superb farm experience. Lastly, if was a
shorter drive back to the RDU region.
This property was all we had imagined! Sooo cute! The breakfast was delicious and oh so filling! We didn't need to eat until supper! Every morning and evening the animals came to the pasture right outside the porch. Even the owner's dog and cat made sure to come say hi! We enjoyed the grill, walked down to the river and enjoyed the 10 degree difference from the house, the sound of the river was so soothing! One night we used the firepit to make some amazing baked potatoes-yum! It was so close to Morganton and Valdese and we made day trips to visit the sights there then home for the evening to relax and unwind. It was perfect and the owner, Mandy, and her children were precious! We will definitely be back and have already recommended this to others. Thank you, Mandy, for making our 41st anniversary weekend memorable and restful!
I stayed two nights in this comfortable little cottage. It’s a one-room structure with a cute kitchenette, tiny bar with barstools, and a comfortable queen bed. There’s a beautifully decorated bathroom with a bathtub/shower, tiny sink, and small toilet (a taller person than me might find it cramped). It would only be better if there were also a comfy reading chair or a loveseat, but then the room wouldn’t feel so spacious and open. Great view of the cows from the room/porch. Overall it’s very quiet except for occasional farm noise. Mandy was responsive if I needed something, but I had as much privacy as I wanted. I was greeted on arrival by a sweet cat and small dog, who were lovely porch companions. If you are seeking a solitary retreat, this cottage is a great choice, but be sure to check the Henry River Farm page on Facebook to see what public events may be happening during your stay.
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the cottage on the farm. The cottage was immaculately clean and is very cute and comfortable. The host had lovely music on for us as we entered the cottage and the space was very well appointed. It is a cozy cottage, really perfect for two people. Not really space for anyone else, but it was perfect for the two of us.
We had so many things that we loved about the place. First of all the outdoor space attached to the cottage was dreamy. Very large covered porch overlooking one of several pastures. The covered porch had two large Adirondack chairs as well as a small loveseat to sit and watch the cows, the donkey, and one of the pigs. The porch had two ceiling fans as well, which was nice because it was in the upper 80s/low 90s when we were there. But between the breeze coming through and the ceiling fans it was quite nice, even in the middle of the day. The porch area also has a nice picnic table for outdoor meals.
The view from the cottage is lovely and overlooks a pasture and beyond that a forest. There property is on a beautiful and secluded river and the walk from the cottage to the river is about a quarter mile. The hosts have folding camp chairs available to take down to the river and we spent almost a whole day there one dat just sitting next to the river and fishing.
One of the best parts of the experience was the adorable dog and cat that visited us multiple times per day and kept us company when we spent time on the porch.
The Henry River Farm and Cottage was absolutely perfect for our anniversary getaway in the mountains. Mandy and her family were delightful as well. Even with the pumpkin patch festivities taking place, we felt we had privacy. I would love to visit again!
Absolutely relaxing and beautiful. One of the most comfortable and cozy small-house stays we've ever experienced. Comes as advertised and then some. The host was so kind and communicative. We hope to return before long!
Beautiful! Clean, ready for us at check in. Check in/ out process was simple. We loved the animals, especially Madfie and Ally, who come visit in the morning.
