North Macedonia

Travel Guide

The Matka Canyon, a gorge in which a rich complex of mediaeval building survives, including churches, monasteries and remnants of a fortress (the mediaeval town of Matka). The canyon is open for kayaking.
If you have ever seen an image of the Republic of North-Macedonia, it will almost certainly be of the cute little church of St Jovan Kaneo on a clifftop rising up from Lake Ohrid. That lake is one of the oldest in the world, almost certainly the oldest in Europe, and among the deepest too. Not surprisingly, it has a rich history and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. #GreatOutdoors #Perspectives #Culture #LocalSecrets

Lake Ohrid, one of the 365 (?) churches on the shores of the lake. #BeachTips #TroveOnTuesday
One of the many Macedonian Orthodox Churches on the shores of Lake Ohrid - there are 365 churches, one for every day of the year.

You can get to this one by walking up the hill, or alternatively, there are small passenger boats from the city centre.
