Purpose-built for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, this huge sports complex in Gangneung remains a major athletics hub and activities center.

In the city of Gangneung on South Korea’s eastern coast, visit Gangneung Olympic Park. Originally constructed and used for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, the park complex consists of several main structures. These include the Ice Hockey Centre, the Curling Centre, the speed-skating Oval and the Gangneung Ice Arena, which has a maximum capacity for 12,000 spectators.

Spread across a wide area, Gangneung Olympic Park is only a short drive from tranquil Gyeongpo Provincial Park and popular Gyeongpo Beach. Learn how many of the venues built for the Olympics were sustainably designed and have now been repurposed by the Legacy Foundation as public sport training centers and leisure attractions for tourists and city residents.

Come to Gangneung Olympic Park to watch an ice hockey game at Gangneung Hockey Centre. It has hosted numerous local and international competitions since the end of the Olympic Games, including the Legacy Cup in 2019 and a national men’s ice hockey championship in December 2018.

Gangneung Oval, where the speed skating competitions of the Olympic Games took place, has been repurposed as the Gangneung Indoor Adventure Sports Park. Try exciting winter sports and other fun activities, such as riding a zip line.

Learn more about the Olympic Games at the Gangneung Olympic Museum in the former Olympic Promotion Hall in the Gangneung Olympic Park complex. Wander down to the modern structure to find out about the city’s role in the 2018 Winter Olympics and to view fascinating memorabilia from past events.

As part of the legacy plans, Gangneung Ice Arena was transferred to Gangneung City to be renovated as a multi-sports facility for the local community and visitors. Look for the adjacent training facility now used by Youngdong College.

For event dates, entry prices and updates on opening times, contact the local tourist board in Gangneung. Reach Gangneung Olympic Park by bus from the main railway station of Gangleung-Yeog. Get off outside the Gangneung National Sports Center, another must-see venue for fitness lovers, with an impressive indoor swimming pool.
