We chose Solar do Castelo because of its unique location and luxury reputation, but unfortunately it didn’t quite meet our expectations.
The location is fantastic, and the outdoor courtyard is beautiful. Breakfast was also very good.
However, the hotel itself didn’t feel particularly luxurious. The beds weren’t very comfortable, the walls were quite thin (we could hear our neighbours talking and using the shower), and the elevator consistently had an unpleasant smell.
Our arrival also left a poor first impression. Our taxi driver had difficulty finding the hotel, but instead of handling the situation professionally, the receptionist was quite rude to him while disputing the fare making us feel quite uncomfortable.
Overall, it’s a nice hotel in an excellent location, but we expected more in terms of comfort and service for the price.
