Hotel Pigal
10/10 Excellent
"First, the amenities were great: clean guestrooms, two fans in each room, and for our use there was a dining room with tables and chairs, a microwave and a fridge, a kettle with free tea, and two vending machines. Also, the staff were welcoming, caring, and friendly, from the adorable cleaning ladies to Chavi the owner/manager, the host with the most! He was always willing to help with anything and answer any question. As a senior traveler, I felt very safe and comfortable with him and his team and was impressed that I wasn't the only older guest who felt the same. Finally, all I want to say is LLL (L=location). The Pigal is minutes away on foot to the train and bus stations, myriad restaurants and bars, the old quarter and cathedral, Tarragona's famous Roman ruins, and the Mercat Central which has an old-style market and a modern super market. If you're lucky, you'll be in town to catch the Castells, human towers and the Sardana, Catalunya's famous dance, both taking place near the hotel."

"5 minute walk from train station. Warm welcome/check-in with Victor. The grand staircase in the center of the building is gorgeous and we chose to walk it, even though there is a lift. Immaculate apartment. Spacious kitchen and living area, well appointed for cooking a full meal. The swanky Bosch appliances were an adjustment but a laminated “how to” guide helped. Eco friendly design and practices. Loved the balcony view over Tarragona’s impressive port. Super comfy soft mattresses, sheets and pillows. Giant bathroom, great shower pressure and pristine soft towels. Did not partake in breakfast but smelled amazing. Terrific food and groceries within an easy walk. Very safe area and safe, secure building/apartments. Excellent value for the money. I would invite the proprietors to punch up the “vibe” with greenery/flora in the front patio, and some color in the rooms (paintings, posters, tapestries, wall tiles?) to cut the sterility. Fabulous digs, would definitely stay again."

"Obviously the main selling point for this hotel is the location! The room was basic but functional. It could have done with more pillows. Some of the maintenance wasn't great - the door handle to the bathroom kept coming off. It could do with more plug sockets. Dinner and breakfast are very good - a large buffet with a good selection and surprisingly good food."

"Overall we enjoyed our stay, perfect location, hotel clean and staff friendly. The only criticism was that pool was heavily chlorinated, so much so it was cloudy, and you couldn't see the bottom of the pool Both myself and daughter have sensitive skin, so we decided not to risk swimming in it. The buffet food was cooked well, however not kept warm. Every meal we had wasn't very warm at all. The variety was good, themed nights were excellent. We thought it strange that we didn't have to pay for drinks at breakfast, but evening meal drinks are chargeable. We weren't made aware of this when we arrived. The drinks are very reasonably priced though, so it wasn't much of an issue. The WiFi was terrible. So much so, I've run out of data, which never happens back home. The walls are paper thin, so we had to use ear plugs to sleep. We loved the water coolers dotted around the hotel. The hotel is very eco friendly. Again, we enjoyed our stay, the downsides didn't detract from the holiday too much. We went to the beach instead of the pool, granted we had to pay for sun beds but you get a reduced price staying in the hotel. The food at the Bluumar beach bar was fantastic. We also had to pay for the safety deposit box in the room, which I've never had to do before. €6 per night."
