Castaways is a fantastic holiday cottage situated just 60 metres from the Blue Flag sandy beach in the village of Porthtowan, on Cornwall’s picturesque and rugged north coast. Equipped to a very high standard, the cottage enjoys views of the sea, sand dunes and cliffs. Available all year; the cottage is a great base for the beach, walking, surfing and touring Cornwall. Off road parking and secure garden. New furniture throughout in 2018/19, a new kitchen and bathroom in 2019.

Could not fault the location, the living space, crockery, cookware and the excellent shower. Double bed comfortable but seemed rather small. Disappointed there was less than half a toilet roll left and no bin bags available. The fridge and sofas were showing signs of wear and after the summer the house needed a deep clean. But would return because of the quiet spot.

Fabulous location right by a fabulous beach!
We loved our stay at Castaways. The location was perfect for us as with 3 teenage kids they just wanted to body board and be on the beach. Fantastic life guarded beach. Lovely little village, amazing restaurant/bar which met all our family’s needs just across the sand. A perfect week in Porthtowan. We’ll be back! x

Great position next to the beach. Close to shop/PO and an excellent chippie. Able to relax together inside or in the garden, or walk across to the pub. We did travel about too, to St Agnes and Perranporth - both within easy reach - and to the Victory Inn 1/2 mile away, but the home beach is a huge asset and not too crowded as others may be.

Perfectly located by the beach this lovely cottage was perfect for a holiday. It had all we needed to make our stay comfortable and porthtown is a lovely. The cottage is right on the edge of the beach and a 1 minute walk from the pub which serves lovely food. We had a lovely week's holiday, thank you

Perfect location, lovely house.
Wonderful property in a quaint little village. As the photo’s show, this is pretty much a beachside location. It was perfect for us (2 x adults & 1 x toddler) with plenty of space. Great spot to stay and wake up to the waves. We found it handy to head out in any direction in the car with Porthtowan being in between Newquay & St. Ives. No phone signal (which I loved) so wifi for everything. Hope to return at some point.

Idyllic spot for a relaxing break
What a wonderful place! Perfect position next to the beach. Lovely place with everything you need to enjoy self catering. This is a home from home which makes you relaxed as soon as you move in. Porthtowan has everything you need as long as you want lovely beach and walks with the dog as well as the clean sea which is looked after by the RLNI. We wish we had booked two weeks instead of only one. We plan to return soon.

Gorgeous location
We had a lovely family stay at Castaways. The accommodation was just right for a family of 5, well furnished in a simple tasteful style, with a well equipped kitchen. The location was fabulous for us, right on the beach so we were able to pop to and from the beach with no fuss. The atmosphere in Porthtowan is laid back with some good places to eat and drink and well stocked little shops. If you enjoy a beach holiday you'll be hard pushed to do better. We shall come back! Location, location, location
We stayed during the Summer holidays, and couldn't fault the house for being exactly as described. We're a family of 5 with a dog, so at times the kitchen felt a little tight, but overall, the house was nicely decorated and furnished. And if you want to be by the beach, you can't get much closer than this. The hosts were really lovely too, very good at communicating / responding although the only issue we had was one that we created ourselves!! The town (more of a Village) is lovely, it has a great vibe to it, very chilled and just fully of lovely people. A couple of great places for food and amazing fish and chips. Some beautiful walks and plenty of surf too. Very happy to recommend the house and Porthtowan and we'll definitely return. Thank you James and Sally :-)

Great location and has all the facilities you would need for a holiday home. We were lucky to have a great week here with good weather. The beach is on your doorstep along with great walks along the cliffs, dogs loved being on the beach early morning and walking along cliffs in the afternoon. Garden is fully enclosed (ideal for dogs) and has picnic table for sitting at. Excellent Wi-Fi and everything was in great working order. Thank You for a lovely week at Castaways.

A small property suitable for two adults with children that has been çonverted to accommodate more
This property would suit a family beach holiday or a group of 6 but at a squeeze. DISLIKES WHERE THE OPEN ACCESS REAR GARDEN WHICH offered no privacy and the undersized ' double' bed that is to small for normal size adults.The property was showing signs of a long season and on arrival the house was cold...over bath shower head loose and it was not possible to turn on the cold water tap....I had to get tools from the car to sort this out. Also there was some issue with the property electric as some sockets just didn't work and some others would only slow charge electronic devices. The bathroom needs attention due to shower water leaking around bath onto floor where the tile grout is missing resulting in a stale water smell. So ok for a small family looking for a beach holiday but watch the tides and sea state carefully it's can catch you out at this beach.

We (a family of 3 with a large dog) have just returned from a week stay at Castaway cottage. Firstly, I would like to point out what a stunning location this is in, the drive down into the cove throws a spectacular view at you every time to return to this beautiful little place. It is centrally located to many beaches and eateries (all of which were dog friendly) The cottage itself is spacious and has a solid floor on ground level meaning its easy to keep clean if you have a sand laden dog :) The bedrooms are of adequate size and the kitchen is fully equipped with all the essentials you need to self-cater - if thats your thing. The 3 bedrooms are a decent size and would cater for a large family, the twin back bedroom even has an en-suite toilet. No towels were provided so make sure you take your own. The back garden is fully enclosed which is handy to let your dog roam in whilst you're relaxing at the picnic table with your glass of vino or chilling out in the lounge watching the box. The WiFi is superb, however there is no phone reception at all - there is a payphone in the cottage if you need to dial a pizza (or curry or whatever your take-away choice is) so take some change with you. There is a well stocked village shop only 100m back along the road and a cracking little beach-side restaurant 300m across the sandy bay from the cottage. All in all we had a fabulous stay and will definitely return in the future. Perhaps in the winter to get a view of the crashing waves on the cliffs. Cheers The Wallace Family.

Nice house very close to the beach.
We had a family holiday here with 2 adults, 2 teenagers (who surf), a toddler and a baby. Porthtowan is a nice, quiet little village. It's all about the beach, which is great, not too busy with some decent surf. There is a strong rip current but there was excellent lifeguard cover when we were there. If Porthtowan is what you are looking for then this is a nice little house for a family or 4 adults. Overall, the house is quite compact, as per the design of most modern houses. The living room space is quite good with seating for 6 but the kitchen/diner is a bit tight. There are 2 okay size bedrooms and the bunk bed room is fine for little ones. There was a travel cot and toddler booster chair available, which were very useful. The back garden is fairly small and is open to neighbours on one side, has a picnic table and is nice and safe for little ones. The house has SMART TV and WiFi, which were great. Just make sure you have the WiFi code before you get there (it wasn't in the arrival book, so I had to use the payphone to call the housekeeper to get it). On arrival the house was neat and tidy (although not quite as clean as we would have expected for the price we were paying) with good quality linen on the beds. There were a couple of kitchen items missing, which were not able to be replaced during our stay, but there was enough equipment to cater for our family, plus a few friends who visited for the day. Overall, it was a nice holiday and the location so close to the beach made this house worthwhile, although for the price in high season it could perhaps benefit from a bit of an update in the kitchen with some higher quality appliances and a bit more attention to detail.

Fantastic location - you couldn't get much closer to the beach!
What a find! I trawled the internet for *hours* before finding this place, and when I found it I thought it looked to good to be true, but no. It really is so close to the beach! There is so much to explore around Porthtowan itself - we didn't use the car for days. That said, it's perfectly placed for touring Cornwall, with easy access to the A30 and only a short drive from many attractions. The cottage is part of a tasteful modern development, complete with private parking, and sea views from the front of the house. The beds and the sofas were comfy, and we loved the plentiful art dotted around the house. As someone else has mentioned, it is quite small for six adults (as we had in our party), but that didn't spoil it for us. My only note would be to take large saucepans if you are planning to cook for six adults, as there wasn't a pan big enough to do rice or pasta for six, which made catering a bit of a juggling act. Thanks to James and Sally for sharing their wonderful holiday home. We hope to return before too long.
