Lake Front Home close to Nashville IN, Bloomington IN and Indiana University

Relive the 60's in our Strawberry Fields lake house. Nestled in the Monroe/Brown County hills on beautiful Lake Lemon. Serving families as a guest house since 2001 and was a residence since 1957 making it a very old lake house, nothing fancy! We love pets so bring your dog or cat or parrot!
Outside there is a boat dock and swimming/beach area, as well as a large yard and a panoramic view of the lake. Strawberry Fields is perfect for families and gatherings. It offers the ultimate in kid-friendly accommodations with its gently sloped access to the lake, and a large but flat backyard that is ideal for throwing Frisbee or playing croquet. There is a fire pit, a charcoal grill and plenty of chairs on the deck. Great place to watch the sunset!

This whimsical Monroe County getaway comfortably sleeps nine with a queen bed on the main floor, a queen, single bed and a trundle in the upstairs master bedroom, and a queen and single bed in the other upstairs bedroom.

It is conveniently located 11 miles from both Bloomington and Nashville. Note that after four guests there is an additional $7.50 per person charge. Check calendar for current prices, they fluctuate.
20 hours a week is spent on just this house cleaning, yard work, shoreline attention. We opened in 2001 and an average of $3000/ year has been spent on maintaining and improving property.

There is a shared dock, we might have our boat on one side and will come down to use it occasionally. The other side of the dock is available for a boat.
The outdoor pool listed is actually the LAKE! There was no way to check for lake.
We previously offered a hot tub but do not anymore, sorry.

Lovely Lake View
Absolutely loved the outdoor space - double swing on the shore, fire pit, back deck off the dining room & kitchen, gorgeous view of the lake! Indoors is very 1960s - Beatles and LOTS of memorabilia from the time. If you're an old hippie, you'll love it. If you're fancy, not so much. It's all a matter of what you like. It was just fine for four women who were born in the early 1960s and raised on farms near a small town. Love the owner, honest and down to earth, great communication, very responsive to our requests. Lots of sleeping spaces for families and welcoming to pets. Enjoyed our time there.

Great location - needs attention
The water is beautiful and the yard is nice - we wished we would have brought tents and just slept outside. The house is old and old is ok - dirty is not. While i appreciate the work the owner puts into keeping up with the property, the home needs a professional deep clean.

The lake view was outstanding. The kayaks allowed us to see the lake and sounding area better. We had a great time. We knew the place was an old farmhouse, but the house needs updating. There was a lot of stuff in the house which made it cluttered. My suggestion would be to remove most of the decorations in the living room and dining room to allow for space to congregate.

Just what we needed
We needed a place with multiple bedrooms for family weekend at IU and this home provided us with everything we needed. It was a quick 20 minute drive to campus plus we had space for our family and dog and a great view of Lake Lemon. If you are looking for something fancy, this may not be your answer, but if you need space for extra people, a pet, and enjoy lake life, this may be for you.

Little Slice of Lake Heaven
Overall property exceeded our expectations. Photos don’t do it justice as the back lawn and beach area were much more accessible and fun filled then we thought it would be! There was a boat but we had been drinking so we didn’t take it out but I didn’t see that mentioned in the description. Overall a great time.

It is what it is
This house is what it says it is. The pictures and description are not misleading. It's an old, lived in lake house. My family and i had a great time. If you are the "camping" or "outdoorsy" type this house is probably your vibe. We showed up on Friday and had no power until Sunday morning due to terrible storms in the area. The signal is...not great in the area, but when the power is on, there is wifi. There are a bunch of water toys. We loved the kayaks that we were able to take back into the channels on Lake Lemon. There was also a great foam water mat that was awesome in the lake after a long day of hiking in the nearby national parks. Despite not having power (which we were accommodated for), we had a great time. And Sura, the owner, came down and said hi and told us about the area. She handled the situation amazingly and I would definitely come back.

Beach home
The location is beautiful, we had a good time, however, there were some issues. There is a large leak in the kitchen, looks like a major plumbing concern, water coming through the floor. The owner came right away and did try to resolve the issue, but it does need some attention. The cleanliness could be better. We appreciate that the character of the house is genuine and organic, however, it might need a little help. The biggest issue was that we couldn’t find one smoke detector in this two story home. THAT is a big concern.

Not clean
The house was quaint and would’ve been nice of it were clean. Spider webs in the sink(along with the spider). Hair in the bathtub and the toilet was dirty. The hand soap as well as the dish soap bottles have been repeatedly refilled with a different soap to the point that the soap was discolored and the labels were coming off. We did love the big plate glass window overlooking the lake and nice deck. I understand how difficult it is to keep a rental clean, having cleaned them ourselves, but cleanliness is vital in a business like this. Also be aware that there is no dryer in the house if you want to do any laundry. Having paid so much for a three day stay, we were disappointed and left a day early.

Beautiful lakefront experience
Beautiful lakefront stay. We absolutely loved the kayaks. Close enough to Bloomington for trips in without much fuss. The house itself could use some cleaning. There was quite a bit in the way of cobwebs and dust, particularly upstairs. Do note that there is a single bathroom which we were aware of. If you think if the property in terms of a lake house stay for nature, you’ll be happy. If you are looking for hotel quality cleanliness and upscale ambiance, you likely will be disappointed. We got what we wanted which was some lovely lake time and proximity to Btown!

Great to get away & disconnect
If you're looking for relaxation, nature, and great views, this is the place to go! Family and pet friendly, and a local eatery within walking distance - can't beat that. If you're looking for concierge-level amenities, save both you and the host the hassle. Be prepared for the drive- 20-25 minutes to Nashville and worth the disconnect from civilization.

Very pleasant lakefront home
Much to enjoy on the lake with provided boats/life jackets for children, toys, swing, large yard with croquet set. One page did say hot tub, but it was not filled/available, so should probably be taken off of ad. Home full of fun pictures, messages. Although there were games once there, a lot of the games were scattered among the shelves with many missing pieces. (Not cared for.) My sister actually took everything out and organized what was there to make a few games playable. She did not have time to organize the Monopoly game, but it looked like all the pieces were there. She left the unusable pieces in the back porch on the hot tub and had to throw some things away (broken boxes, pieces, etc.). But fortunately, we had brought many puzzles and games and toys, AND there was a wonderful chest of giant Legos and other toys for the young ones, so we are not complaining! Beds very comfortable. We managed with one big bathroom with plenty of linens provided. We could have used a large frying pan, but managed. Excellent weekend adventure for the whole family. Recommended.

Great little getaway
The owner of this house is a grandmother who still uses the property for her own family gatherings and parties. This was comforting to know going in, and indeed, staying here felt like you were staying at a place with personality and uniqueness. Handwritten notes encourage you to recycle. A vegetable garden bursting with cherry tomatoes and peppers grows in the backyard. A wooden swingset and a jungle gym sit near the water’s edge. If you have kids and if you appreciate a simple getaway, stay here. Our kids, ages 6 and 2, loved it. The living room contains low-tech toys that were a delightful change from the norm, such as a rocking horse and a chest full of building blocks. Two plastic slides and a plastic teeter-totter join the swingset and jungle gym in the backyard. There’s a croquet set and a shed full of water floaties and kayaks. We adults loved it, too. The guest house offers cheerful yellow siding, a sloping yard to the lake, a towering maple tree, a fire pit, a small pebble beach with easy access to the lake (you’ll want to wear water shoes while swimming; the bottom is rocky) and a covered double swing near the water. In the front of the house, a grape vine winds around the porch railing. The house had everything we needed in terms of towels, kitchen accessories and other household items. The wi-fi signal was strong and accessible. Some reviewers have complained about no working dryer and the appearance of cobwebs outside, but for us, this added to the simple charm of the place. While nearby properties boasted ridiculously large mansions with zero vegetation and zero personality, we felt like we were truly staying at a lake cottage. The owner took the time to call us on a rainy day and suggest a nearby children’s museum to attend. She was available to answer other questions we had, as well. This was a wonderful experience and we plan to come back next year.

Great Lake Access
We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Be aware you must recycle all your trash, sweep and vacuum before you leave and the upstairs was hot. We bought fans and yard guard. The home has decades of deferred maintenance but my family thought it a great value. Nothing fancy - just a beautiful lake. Owner watches you from neighboring properties and does drive bys.

Lemon Lake
All in all we had a nice stay. Lake is beautiful and it's a peaceful spot.Book a boat in advance. We were unable to get one as they were booked at the local marina. Bring your own water toys for the kids as most of the ones on the property are either broken or in very poor shape. Bring cooking utensils too, nothing to flip a burger, lots of silverware though. We enjoyed swimming, and the campfire. The lake house has a comfortable homey feeling. No washer and dryer for renters. No hot tub either.... Although it's still sitting there. Homeowner asks for you to remove sheets and pillow cases. This made quite a mess for us as mattress protector was falling apart. Mattresses are due for an upgrade!! Would have been nice to soak in the hot tub after sleeping on them. Ha Homeowner was friendly my daughter said. She also asked my daughter to please leave a good review as the last one really hurt her. There are NO BED BUGS!! Spiders, gnats, and mosquitoes, yes but you're at a lake!! Overall nice place, but homeowner needs to accept some constructive criticism and upgrade a few things. Love that she lets you bring your pets as a lot of people won't!! Regardless of some small issues we'd stay again 🙂

Quite the Experience
I am a Level 7 Google Reviewer and provide honest reviews for travelers to make educated decisions. This rental was definitely not the cleanest or most comfortable place we have stayed. I understand the whole "environmentally-friendly/Zen with the world" approach that the owner has. However, that's no justification for lack of upkeep, disorganization, and cleanliness. The owner was nice enough, and we had nothing against her personally. But, reading previous reviews, it is obvious she gets defensive about any criticism and the response is generally "too bad, the place is how we like it." She would be well-served to consider constructive feedback from guests who have stayed here. Regardless, from a traveler perspective, here's what I believe you need to know... PROS: - Owner is friendly; she's essentially an environmentally-conscious hippy (nothing wrong with that) - It is a lake front property (not the most attractive, but it is lake front) CONS: - The place is not well-maintained (regardless of how much it is worth as a lake front property); upkeep and maintenance is very poor (closet doors are off hinges, missing screens, holes in decking, absolutely no effort given to landscaping, junk packed everywhere, etc.) - Disorganization is the main theme of this place (very cluttered); this includes inside the house, the water toy area (where everything is just thrown in an area randomly with absolutely no organization), and the shed that is packed full of junk and is about ready to collapse. - Cleanliness is poor; there is thick dust on all the knick-knacks spread throughout the house. Several of us slept in our jeans and did not get under the covers for fear of bed bugs. So, my recommendation is to inspect the listing carefully. Read other reviews (not just mine) to get a feel for what you are getting into. And lastly, keep in mind that you get what you pay for.
