Noravank Monastery in Amaghu Valley, Vayots Dzor Province, Armenia
A visit to the Noravank Monastery is a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Yerevan. Visit early in the morning or late in the day and you may just be lucky enough to be able to explore the ancient chapels without crowds of people. #lifeatexpedia #armenia #caucasus
We started walking in the heat of the day, something I wouldn't advise to anybody. The sun was beating down on our heads. We stopped at the farm with the barking dog to talk to the man who doesn't speak. Luckily his wife does, and our guide had a conversation about the cows and goats. Butterflies littered the trail by the dozens, hardly caring we were there. We ate lunch under the shade of a tree by the river.

Somebody let the cows roam into the monastery at night and they made a mess of the open courtyard. The flies loved it but our guide took pictures and promised to put them on Facebook as a complaint. It was a perfect day in Armenia.

There was something of the old wild west of America about this little church. The flat facade, the mismatched stones propping up what seemed to be a false front. Inside a swarm of flies harkened decay, so I didn't proceed. Behind me along the trail was a fountain and a bench in the shade of tree where we ate lunch. Somebody had left a tea pot a spoon and an orange there. Even further behind me was the ruins of an ancient city complex whose walls were half hidden by the summer growth.

Very sad to hear about the loss of lives in the Nagorno-Karabakh region--
It is why I decided to post a photo from Armenia today, a country that I love with all my heart and one of the most beautiful experiences (people- and nature-wise) of my life!

'Sampling pomegranate, sour cherry, or blackberry wine – besides the classic grape wine – could be an unforgettable experience. One that will surely tempt you to try and get as many bottles of wine as you’d like home. From experience, wine does stain.'

We were on our way to a fortress, or coming back from one, I don't recall. But I do know that we had been walking for hours down an old military road.
Further down a small restaurant in the middle of nowhere was blasting shitty pop music from even shittier speakers. The tranquility was broken. Our guide pointed to the empty restaurant with its flags fluttering in the breeze and simply said: "Marketing".
