Adorned with stylish residences and upmarket shops, Saint-Georges is a lively quartier(quarter) to visit in central Toulouse. Its northern corner features French and international restaurants. As you move further south in the district you’ll find entertainment venues and shops. Discover the latest trends in French fashion in the many stores and boutiques of this busy hub.
In the southwestern corner of the quarter stands the Musée des Augustins. Relax in its scenic courtyard and spot the redbrick tower rising from its corner. Once inside, admire the impressive sculptures dating from the Middle Ages to the 1940s. Stroll down the neighboring cobbled avenues and browse the items for sale in the exclusive brand stores.
A little northeast, enjoy a meal or a hot drink at one of the cafés, whose terraces overlook the Place Saint Georges. Watch people go by in this lively central plaza and let your kids frolic in the playground.
A short walk east from the square stands the vast Espace Saint Georges shopping center, which is full of restaurants, cafés and shops. Drop off the little ones in the ZePléGraounde area, as you explore the stores.
Next door, marvel at the futuristic design of the Théâtre National de Toulouse. Watch a performance of anything from dance and circus acts to puppet shows and poetry readings in the 900-seat auditorium or the smaller accompanying theater. On a fine day, sit beside the glorious fountain of the Jardin Pierre Goudouli.
The Saint-Georges district is just east of the civic and geographical center of the city. Travel by metro to any of the Capitole, Jeanne d’Arc, Jean-Jaurès, Esquirol or François-Verdier stops that surround this triangular-shaped district. You can also drive and leave your vehicle in one of the parking lots. Surroundings zones include Capitole, Saint-Etienne and Matabiau.
Courtyards, shopping avenues and gardens make Saint-Georges an outdoor haven, while the large mall provides an option for rainy day activities.
