Split

The jewel of an empire

The largest city on the Adriatic Coast, Split still has a friendly neighborhood feel. In fact, everything about Split feels welcoming. Perhaps that’s due to the fact that it’s been under the rule of Romans, Venetians, the French, Austrians, and the Italians, making it a true historic melting pot. In fact, the only thing more diverse than its culture are its attractions, as you’ll discover Instagram-worthy caves, quaint markets, sleepy harbors, verdant wineries, epic national parks, and a magnificent palace. Everything is bigger in Split – including the memories.

Zagreb

Where inspiration comes from the heart

Zagreb is not just the capital of Croatia – it’s a capital of culture. Indeed, if you’re looking to fill your vacation with quirky fashion, up-and-coming indie bands, eccentric bars, and trendy eateries, you might want to skip Paris and London and beeline straight to Zagreb. That’s not to say the city isn’t quintessentially Croatian – you’ll still find plenty of remarkable history, inviting cafes, and remnants of the Austro-Hungarian empire; you’ll just find a city that’s thrillingly alive to the present, as well.

Plitvice Lakes

National Park

Looking to explore the great outdoors? It doesn’t get much greater than Plitvice Lakes National Park. Designated as a UNESO World Heritage site since 1979, the National Park isn’t just Croatia’s most popular tourist attraction, it’s a remarkable doorway into a lush, wild world. You’ll find plenty to do around the 16 lakes, but the journey between the lakes is just as remarkable, as you’ll traverse deep woodland filled with rare birds, while making your way around chains of interconnected waterfalls. Bring your swimsuit, bring your camera, and most of all, bring your sense of adventure.

Mljet

National Park

Just 23 miles from Dubrovnik, the oh-so-green island of Mljet couldn’t be much different from its lively neighbor. This is a land of sea, sun, and rugged beauty, where walking and cycling trails will carry you through the 5,400-hectare national park, and you can unwind in the shadows of a 5th-century Roman Palace on the Polače waterfront. If you’re looking for a bit of rest, relaxation, and outdoor adventure, set a course for Mjet, and get ready for lazy afternoons of red wine, secret swimming holes, and sunset sailing.

Hvar

The sunniest Croatian island

The glittering resort town draws globetrotters, adventure seekers, and yacht enthusiasts in the summer months, making it a place to see and be seen. But go a bit off the beaten path and you’ll find sleepy fishing towns, sun-dazed coves, and rolling olive groves, making it the perfect spot to level up your tan on the road less traveled. And with 2,800 hours of sunshine each year, you’ll find Hvar to be a breath of fresh air.

Skywalk Biokovo

Dare to cross the edge

Perched high along the shore of Biokovo Nature Park, Skywalk Biokovo offers breath-taking views of the Dalmatian coast. This a spectacular spot to take a deep breath and contemplate life, take your Instagram to the next level, and avoid looking down – as the skywalk’s glass floor crosses over an abyss a km below. While it may feel like you have your head in the clouds, you’ll want to stay grounded when hiking through the park, so pack appropriate footwear, water, and sun protection, and get ready to take your vacation to new heights.

Korčula

Korčula claims to be the home of Marco Polo

Explorers take note: Korčula is not only claimed to be the home of Marco Polo; it’s the perfect spot to chart a course for relaxation, summer fun, medieval lore, and a bit of sun-seeking. It’s not as busy as some of the other Croatian islands, meaning that you can wander the magnificent historic core of Korčula town without having to elbow through crowds. The island is nicknamed “Black Korcula”, due to the thick forest, so if you want to go even farther off the main routes, you can plan a hiking trip in the lush natural surroundings: bonus points of you make it wine-centric.

Kornati

National Park

Does a little alone time sound good? How about some time alone among nearly 100 uninhabited islands? The islands of Kornati National Park may sound too good to be true, but if you’re looking to play Robinson Crusoe, then you’ll find plenty of room to stretch out among the soaring cliffs, wild grottos, and skeleton-white rocks. There’s nary a restaurant or museum in sight, but the stars blinking on above the rugged landscape of Gornji Kornat will provide memories that last a lifetime. You can take your own boat to visit Kornati, or charter one from any of many marinas from Zadar to Split.
