Have stayed here numerous times because of location, spacious rooms, and, previously nice staff. Apparently a corporation from California bought them. Now check-in is solely online/or code. Heaven forbid you get there at 340pm. It's a hard check-in at 4pm. Otherwise you're charged $75. We had issues opening our door. Called the number, voicemail full. Finally figured out you have to punch in code and within 2 seconds twist deadbolt opposite to arrow while pulling door handle toward you. Frustrating. Not sure what we woild have done if we didn't get it finally. No person there to assist. We got there Friday afternoon. Saturday morning at 8am we got a text from Talsey the AI bot offering help if needed for places to eat, etc. All in all the rooms and location remain great. I did not like the impersonal and potential for problems of virtual check in. Humans like to talk to humans.

If you are looking to stay on St. Simon's Island do not book your stay at Epworth by The Sea. The staff was not friendly or accommodating at all. When we arrived to the property. We were left in the dark about the properties'' amenities unless we asked. The iron in the room was broken, there are spider nests and cob webs all over the place inside and outside. My biggest complaint however, is that our first morning we left the "maid service please" signage outside on the door handle that was provided by the hotel. We left that morning to go to the beach and came back in the evening to find our room exactly how we left it. There was no turn down service, trash was still full and we left our used towels on the floor to be collected, and they were not. When we called the front desk to request housekeeping the woman at the front desk was rude and informed us that we were supposed to let them know we wanted someone to come to our room. It took over 30 mins to get new towels. Upon checking out, there were 2 employees at the front desk, no greeting, no smile did not even ask how our stay was. I told the young lady we were checking out, she put her hand out to get the key cards and barely said a word to us. the staff is poorly trained on customer service and we will never stay here again. the property grounds are beautiful and the rooms are decent but we wont be returning due to the poor accommodations. They really need to do better.

Overall, this was a wonderful area and very quiet for our 4th of July getaway. Our room was very lovely (the bed was super comfy) and the staff very friendly. Our shower was a bit of a mess at the build kept causing water to pool out due to it's lack of ability to drain correctly. Our balcony view was enjoyable and allowed us to keep watching the fireworks that were happening all the way down on St. Simons and Jekyll Island. Good sized gym and pool area and there were a handful of local eateries that were walkable from our hotel as well.
