(498 reviews) Overall we enjoyed our stay. However, with the temperatures being around 29c we found that the ceiling fan was not enough to keep the room cool. We tried sleeping with the balcony doors open but the traffic noise kept us awake as well. We were given another room which was a little better. Bathroom & Kitchen areas need refurbishing, our bathroom was very dirty in places. If you want hot food in the evenings then book the A la Carte restaurant. Restaurant & bar staff were very friendly and helpful. A good location, with 2 small supermarkets down the road but Funchal centre was too far to walk both ways. We arrived early in the morning, stored our luggage, and then returned around 5 pm, whereupon we were assigned Rooms 360 and 362 which we were told were next to each other. Instead, there was both a large meeting room and a large library space between them. I was in 362, which unlike my friend's room had no sofa, no desk with a chair for writing, no nook for coffee pot, and was considerably farther from elevators. We paid the same amount for our stay. Also, unlike my friend's room, I was not supplied with face cloths and had to request them. We were exhausted after a long trip from the US and sightseeing and I didn't have the energy to protest the inferior room and possibly move. People should be aware also that, while the distance to the historic downtown is a 15 minute walk, the return is up a very long and steep hill. We noticed, after several trips up and down the hill, that there is a bus that goes up the hill. It would have been helpful if at reception, someone would have alerted us to the availability of the bus and indicated the bus number and cost. On the positive side, there are a number of small, reasonably priced restaurants across from the hotel.
